Video of my control problem. Any Suggestions?

I made a video with my iPhone of my problem with the buttons on my new arcade machine. I did check the NO/NC switches and my wires are hooked up to the NO. Any suggestions on what the problem could be?




I can make another video or take pictures of whatever might be helpful. Obviously the player one joystick needs to be fixed as it presses the switch that makes the character jump unless I hold the joystick down. Thanks for all the help everyone has been!

open up notpad. See which button is haveing the issue and which buttons work and go from there.

Better yet use keyscan to see the keys that do not show up in notepad.   Available as a download from BYOAC.

Pics of the inside wiring would be a good start -- inside the control panel and the harnesses that plug into the gameboard.

so the issue is the player two buttons aren't working?

i just sort of breezed through your other thread...I'm not sure about this particular board, but you may have a separate harness for the player 2 buttons. just be sure the wires aren't broken or tore off all the way along to the board and the plugs at the end are in place on the main board. be sure they are properly oriented and not plugged in backwards or something silly like that.

most likely (99%) just a slight wiring issue, but be aware, at absolute worst, you have a problem with the input register of the board. it would be best in that case to send it off for repair. (or mame the cabinet)

if the joystick seems to want to return to "center" but the center is slightly up, there is likely an issue with the spring or the collar that keeps the joystick centered.

depending on the style/brand/type of joystick your switches might have leafs on them that push the tiny button down to activate the switch, just bend it down a little. to give the actuator part of the stick some room to move before clicking the button.

I guess that would be helpful wouldn't it! It is a Tekken Tag machine. I am going to MAME it eventually, but I wanted to have a few weeks of regular Tekken action going first.

Buttons aren't working for players 1 or 2 other than:
-Start buttons work
-Player one kick button works
-Player 2 Punch button works
-Player 2 Joystick Works

Player One joystick is also messed up. The joystick is sunken down a bit and presses the switch to make the character jump.

I do not have a multimeter but my friends are electricians and said they can help me in a week or two... I just don't want to wait that long

I do have a copy of the manual, but I can't activate the switch test because the button to select the switch test is not working.

It would really be kinda silly to troubleshoot this without a meter. If I were you, I'd go get a cheapy meter.

Its appears that you have a stuck switch and probably some kinda open condition.
the best way to troubleshoot is to go through with a meter and also visually look through for shorted wires or disconnected wires.

If you can find where the signal common for the controls first goes, you may wanna disconnect that and see if the constant jumping stops, just in case its a board issue (though I would definitely think its not)

All right, i got the multi meter... Now I just need to figure out what I am doing with it.

Patience... You spent a whole 35 minutes on it. Do some reading and keep working with the multi-meter.

You are right... I am just lost and frustrated. I have never used a multi meter and I am not even completely sure what I am looking for. Earlier though, I did find that there was a wire connecting buttons that was not connected to anything else, so I at least found part of the problem, now I just need to figure out how to fix that. Also, some of the wires are soldered on and some use disconnects... not quite sure what I am going to do about that... I do not have a desoldering iron.

When it is doing that, is the joystick centered or can you tell it is stuck off center?  When you move the joystick, does it move smoothly or does it feel rough and / or rubbing on something?

Reason I ask, I bought a cabinet once and one of the joysticks was stuck in the up position.  The control panel had been redone to add a second stick.  The stick was rubbing on the wood behind the control panel.  There was a cutout for the joystick under stick 1 but not on stick 2 (which was not originally on the panel).  

A joystick can act up if it doesn't have enough free space to function properly, it isn't put together right (as in missing parts or not assembled right), wiring issues (wired wrong or short circuits), or a bad switch.
