LED buttons? Do i need a 12V power supply?
« on: November 07, 2011, 07:31:20 am »
Hi, I have a couple of LED insert coin buttons and i was wondering if i need to hook them up to a 12v power supply? Does the ipac2 make them light up or is a extra connection needed to make them glow?

I dont want to open up my pc power supply so can i just but another 12v power supply off ebay or something?

Thanks

mgb

you would need to power them seperate. the ipac won't light them. You can use something like a plug in wall wart type 12volt supply.

Make sure that you actually need 12V for those led's.  That sounds awfully high for led voltage, unless they already have resistors attached to them.

Are these the buttons that you have? ozstick

If they are 12V regulated from your PC power supply is your best source of power.   You do not have to open your PC supply just use one of the 4 pin molex connectors that you are not currently using.   Connect to the yellow and black wire to get 12V and gnd.  You can connect by cutting the 2 wires and splicing to them with wires going to your leds.   If you do not want to alter the pc power connector then get a molex extender and splice into it and plug it into your PS molex connector.

Since it is rated as a 12V led it wil have the resistor built in.

Spot on. I have 2 of them. Would i have enough room for two of them connecting to the same pc power supply?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, just be sure that you connect them in parallel.
