Make magazine arcade

I do not know how many of you check out Make magazine but their latest issue has an arcade build.

One of the interesting aspects is the design of a bluetooth controller.

A bit pricey but interesting.

Pricey doesn't even begin to describe that bluetooth board. That's not a standalone pcb, it's a "shield" (I will happily take part in any mob that decides to hang the bastard who decided to call these damn things "shields".) You need a damn Arduino to go with it. I haven't priced out Arduino's lately, but at $80 for just the BT daughter board, it would be a hell of a lot cheaper and result in approximately the same amount of work to hack a PS3 controller.

I read the article and wasn't impressed at all.  It's great for Make dorks who already have a pile of arduino stuff.  I'm surprised they didn't make a case with a home made 3D printer.  Don't get me wrong, Make is a great magazine.  Just that some of us like to make things to use, not just make things for the purpose of making.

Yeah, not a fan of the aluminum bars and plywood approach, but I would love to play with an Arduino one day. Maybe I'm reading the specs wrong but it sure SOUNDS like that bluetooth shield could be used WITHOUT an arduino.

Still, it's expensive when compared with a PS3 controller hack, but it looks like the shield may have a little more capability.

Thanks for the article, I like seeing any approach to MAME interfaces.
