*NEW SlikStik Arcade cabinet reviews?
« on: September 15, 2003, 03:48:55 pm »
Has anyone had any experience with the new SlikStick Arcade cabinet offering?  It looks pretty well made from what I can tell from their website.

http://www.slikstik.com/sscab.htm

It also is designed to fit a 27" Wells D9200 arcade monitor and of course to fit their SlikStick controller panels!  Any advice or opinions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

Its been said..

Good product.

Overpriced.

Not as bad as some others... but still a little on the high side.

So if you want something that looks good... and you don't have the skills (or willing to learn the skills) then its pretty good... and I think really good compared to the others out there.

But if you are willing to learn something you will pay 1/2 as much and get way more out of it... plus be able to customize it to what you want...   Also there are some great plans for 10-40 bucks that are worth the money.  then you get rid of the guess work... Also for double that you get ones with templates you tape on the mdf.  NOTE:  kits like this you are shipping a LOT of wood... So all other prices alone... the cost of shipping might be the price of all the tools needed to build a cab.

OR...

Buy an existing one... And buy a few items and get it going.  (this is only going to be a deal in some cases... depends on how much you are willing to deal with).

Lilwolf,
I am looking for minimal construction effort.  I considered buying a completed cab but they were $4000+ for a good one.

I already have the PC so if I buy the SlikStik Arcade kit + 27" Wells D9200 monitor + SlikSkit control panel, how much else do I really need.  The SlikStik Arcade solution seems pretty simple.

Ive never heard anyone complain about the quality or craftsmanship of SlikStik products, so if you can handle the price, it looks like a good choice for you.

He's going to review the SlikStik cab soon, so it might be a good idea to wait and see how he likes it.

IIRC, this was the overwhelming response to it.  Bear in mind that nobody here actually owns one yet (to my knowledge), but like Ledbetter said, KevSteele should be reviewing one at some point in the near future.

Yea Kevin informed me that he expects his review in around a week of the SlikStik Arcade cab configured with a Wells 27" D9200 and a SS Classic contoller.

He should have his review done soon.  There's a picture up on his site of his progress so far.  It looks like a pretty slick cabinet.

Is Kevin associated with SlikStik in someway? Seems like he reviews their products more than others. just wondering.

I review what I receive -- SlikStik's been putting out a lot of new products, and they've sent me most of their smaller products to review. (I've purchased the two SlikStik panels I've reviewed)

I've also written documentation for them -- the SlikStik owner's manual (which was written after I mentioned the lack of a manual in my first review of their SlikStik controller), and now the installation manual for the SlikStik cabinet. The first manual was for cash, the second was in exchange for the cab. Guess which one I think was the better deal?  ;) )

Anyway, that's my association with SlikStik. They put out good stuff, but only you can decide if the price is right for you.

My SlikStik cabinet review should be ready by early next week (think Monday or so). I've just got to get the finishing touches on the cab, and then actually write the review!
