RS232 pinout for Microtouch EX122 controller
« on: October 20, 2011, 12:18:59 pm »
Hi guys I just bought a used 15" PanoView LCD Monitor with touchscreen model#PV751TMC (Manufactured by Optoma) and am having trouble getting the touchscreen to work.  I opened it up and there is a Microtouch controller and I assume the sensor and controller work as the diagnostic LED brightens when I touch the screen.  The interface is RS232 to the computer and the connector on te unit is female. I built a male to female straight through cable and downloaded the driver (MicroTouch MT7) form 3M's website but it doesn't detect the controller on com 1 (only 1 com port on computer).  Any suggestions on how to get it to work?  I just assumed it would use a straight through cable but maby it uses null?

RS232 cables are fairly standard as are the connectors.  The only RS232 cable that is really non standard is called a null modem cable used between 2 RS232 ports on 2 computers.  Have you set the baud rate and stop bits on your COM:1 port?   If you haven't try 9600 baud with 1 stop bit.

Thanks for the input Bob about the cable.  I managed to track down the data sheet about the Microtouch controller and discovered that the cable has loopback handshaking. So I cut the RS232 cable and rewired and voila it works now!  Now I can finally start building my jukebox.  When I picked this monitor up last week I was worried that it was a dud when I couldn't get the touch working.
