Dumb Question Time

Concerning classics that alternate player turns; I have P1's MAME (tab menu) control inputs mapped to P1's set of controls and P2's mapped to P2's set of controls. When it's P2's turn, P1's set of controls have to be used. Why?

Did some searching, but my search skills must be way off today.

I was thinking it might have something to do with that. I'm not at home right now, or I'd mess with it, but would turning cocktail mode on in the dip switch settings rotate the monitor as well, or does that have to be enabled in MAME? This isn't in a cocktail cab and I don't want the monitor to invert.

I was wondering the same thing the other night when messing around w/ LEDBlinky for Galaga'88. Only the fire button for P1 lit up even tho I had MAME/LEDBlinky setup for P1 and P2 to use different inputs. Since that cab must've utilized a single joystick and button for both P1 and P2, only those controls lit up and only those controls could be used to play the game. Would be interested to know how to get around this. I would like to have these types of games be able to utilize P1 and P2 controls separately.

That's why my 3-sided cocktail used LEDBlinky and lights the appropriate controls.

I was, sorry to create confusion. But if you can have seperate controls for Frogger on a cocktail, how can you have seperate controls for it on an upright? Would it be the cocktail dipswitch setting? And would that affect monitor orientation between player turns? Sorry for all the questions, I could find out real easy by messing with it, but on my way home I got called back out to work...

What I do on alternating two player games is map both sets of inputs to both sets of joysticks and buttons. 

Thought about doing this (might end up having to). But the 7 year old girl gets a little excited about handling the controls.

Well I tried messing with the dipswitches for three games; frogger, burgertime, and donkey kong. With frogger, changing the cabinet dipswitch from upright to cocktail worked perfectly. P1 joystick controlled P1 and P2 joystick controlled P2 and the screen didn't flip. Setting burgertime and donkey kong to cocktail also enabled P2's controls, but it inverted the screen. ---smurfy---!

Also, I'm running version .135. Maybe a newer version will be able to do this? In the mean time, I'm going to have to go the PBJ route.

I think you can set a hotkey in Mala to rotate the screen on the fly.  Then you could use the cocktail dipswitch setting and just hit the rotate key when it's player 2's turn.  Crude, but a last resort maybe?

You should have multiple cocktails. I like having multiple machines. Does your spinner light up too?

I'm not a big fan of craning my neck over the screen to play. I've had 2 cocktails. Got rid of'em.

I actually traded it for landscape lighting work I needed done.   

I do have multiple machines, and only one cocktail, an original Nintendo Popeye (for the wife).
