Small inwall speaker with volume control?
« on: October 09, 2011, 08:21:02 pm »
Anyone ever seen something like this?

Basically, I'm trying to figure out something to do with a blown out old (and I mean OLD) nutone intercom system.

It worked until about a year ago, when the house got struck by lightning.

I just now got to looking at it, and there's actually char marks on the boards. It's toast.

But I've tested continuity on a few of the remote speaker connections and they're still good.

So, I'm thinking.... "What to do"?

One possibility is to put little internet tablets in the holes. But that could get $$$, not to mention I'd have to run power to all the wholes to run the little power bricks for each tablet.

So I'm wondering if I could just mount some small, say 5.25" speakers with a simple volume control pot in each remote hole (and just fill in the front intercom hole).

But searching so far as turned up nothing.

Anyone here ever done anything with an old intercom system?

Replacing it is possible, but new systems are ridiculously expensive.
