Buttons not working in maximus with iPAC2
« on: September 28, 2011, 08:16:21 am »
Hi There,
Maybe someone could point me in the right direction.  I have a system with MAME setup (v 139).  The hardware is all running through an iPAC2 controller and I have 2 front ends - maxims arcade and MALA.  I really like maxims but I am having an issue with the buttons working in the game.
The odd thing is that all the buttons work fine in MALA.  I have the default options for the controllers on both products.

I have not been able to find a controller file out there for the iPAC2 - to the best of my knowledge it is like using the keyboard.
Does anyone know of a “default” iPAC2 config file that can be imported into maxims?  Or am I just off base and on the wrong path?

Any help would be appreciated.

Paul

You should be able to use the default setting for the games as the default is a mame standard.   The settings for maximus are setup in Preferences/Controller  Setup1 Setup2 and menus.   A common problem is using esc to quit the exe.   This causes the games to hang.   Use the end key or another unused key to quit the executable.

I'm having the same issue as the OP describes.  Maxmius simply will not respond to any keyboard input at all.  Not from the keyboard or the buttons/sticks on my panel.  I can use either in Windows fine, but the moment I launch Maximus, the only keyboard actions I can perform are alt+tab and the windows key.  I'm running Windows XP pro 64 bit sp2(no sp3 for pro 64).   Not sure if that might be related.  If I can get the task manager up and end the maximus process, everything is wonderful again(in windows).  I also can not get the Input tab to read anything in the config screen either.  I thought maybe if I remapped them I could get it to work.  Nope.  I can delete keys(with mouse) but can not re-add them.  This is also from me launching it from the exe file, not Ctrl+P as others always suggest.  This is simply because I can't.  Maximus won't read my keys.

The config says left and right should swap out emulated systems, they are mapped as such.  They respond that way in anything else in Windows.  (I'm running default on the input config btw).

Not really sure what else to do.  I'm only running the trial now and was falling in love with it while testing it on my Windows 7 PC.  Threw it on my cab and it simply won't work.  Not sure what to do.  Found a few other similar threads on some forums but no one seems to believe the OP's and suggest things that don't really address the issue and no clear answer is really ever given.

I'll prob just go with another frontend I guess.  Just hoping SOMEONE out there has an idea.

For more specs, using a J-Pac via USB and a keyboard via USB.  I thought maybe maximus was confused at which keyboard to look at so I removed the actual keyboard and only used the j-pac.  No go.

Cleansing my hands of this I guess and looking at another one.

Same thing happened 2 me last night. Keyboard and iPac4 were working just fine in MA. All of a sudden, they no longer work in the frontend. However, when I exit MA they both work fine in Windows 7. Any thoughts?

As it turns out, my ipac4 might be defective. When I start up my computer and go into notepad, the ipac repeatedly puts out the numbers 2 and 6 (i.e. 262626262626). When I unplug the ipac and just leave keyboard connected, the input works fine for MA. I think MA gets confused by the barrage of input coming from the ipac. I'm working with Andy at Ultimarc to determine whether the ipac is salvageable. But if u have this same problem, it could be the keyboard encoder...

Did anyone found a resolution to this isssue?

I've found these threads describing what I think is the same issue:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=110330.0
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=112655.0
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=112941.0
http://maximusarcade.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1121&start=30

For me everything works fine as long as I don't let Maximus program my IPAC. If I use multiple IPAC setups (for different emulators), this issue will eventually accour and no keystrokes will be registered (in MA). If I use only one IPAC setup, already programmed, MA works fine.

The old Ipacs have issues.  I finally threw my old Ipacs (the first and second generation models) in the garbage heap and installed a cheapo Xin-Mo USB encoder (26 bux incl. ship onebay) and those nagging inescapable issues are gone.   Maybe the new Ipacs with the USB hook ups corrected these issues, but the point is, you will never get those old Ipacs to work without tons of nagging issues that just have no work arounds.

hmmm. .weird

I was using Maximus last year and had no problems with my iPac2..  Not sure how old my verison is, but I've had it for a long time.

I will be using Maximus again soon.  Hopefully everything still works.
