how best to set up Gauntlet Legends?
« on: September 27, 2011, 07:22:22 am »

Was at a friends place a few weeks ago and I helped him remember the name of a favourite of his- Gauntlet Legends. He had mame, but like me, it was version 78. After installing the ROM I realised that 1) it needed to be a later version of MAME to work and B) I needed a CHD as well. SO basically I had (from memory)

ROM gauntleg.zip (version 1.6)

CHD gauntleg.chd (version 1.6)

and I think we downloaded MAME32 version 103

And i read something somewhere about creating a folder with the name 'gauntleg' to put the chd in.

Needless to say I'm asking about it because we couldn't make it work. What is the method for CHD's and what's a sure fire combo of things for Gauntlet Legends in particular? MAME will need to be mame32 or whatever it's called now. I'm hoping version 1.6 of the game is fine since we have that.

the zip file goes into your ROMS folder

make a folder inside your roms folder for gauntleg   (roms/gauntleg)
put the gauntleg.chd into that folder

I would say just get the newest version of mame..alot of happened since .103...ALOT..so the file(gauntleg zip and chd) you dloaded may only work with the newer versions of mame.  use clrmamepro and see what that says..

Yeah, the chd goes in a folder of the same name and that just goes into the rom folder.
There's really nothing more to it.

If you're running MAME .078, I'm assuming you don't have a bleeding edge screamer of a pc.
You do realize that it takes a crazy fast 4Ggz+ pc to run Gauntlet Legends in MAME?

Most people just settle for the dreamcast version.

Reason for 78 (like a lot of people) is that it was the first version I tried way back when and there was never any need to go through all the rigmarole of updating it. My friends PC is fairly cutting edge. Next I'm at his place We'll have another go at it, but from what I hear, there isn't a PC fast  enough to run it properly  :(

Good to know there is a dreamcast version. I'll let him know. If he feels strongly enough about it, he can buy a DC...

DC emulation is great, runs on a P4.  Mame emulation is grabage, slowdown and freeze up at aobut level 3, regardless of mame rig

I thought Gauntlet Legends not working right in mame was the most common of knowledge on this form…  :-\

I searched "Gauntlet Legends" on the main form and about 60 different posts came up.

I wouldn't know. I lose interest in most arcade stuff after about 1991, so there was never a need for me to know...

Well, this was useful for me in that I didn't realize DC emulation only required that spec.  Time to get that on my cab for this, and similar games.

I haven't tried Gauntlet Legends on Mame yet, but I know my computer can't handle it anyway. The Dreamcast is a good alternative for some of the 3D arcade stuff like this, I still need to get that game.

Yeah - I never even attempted it because of that.  Hopefully NullDC will run! :)

And...---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.  Forgot - no mirror output option in nulldc = I can't use it.

While I lovethe mirror setup, sometimes I hate my f-ing cabinet.
