Joystick recommendations
« on: September 25, 2011, 01:26:28 pm »
Hello Arcade Controls Forum members!

I am building a 4 player control panel, with a fifth joystick for older games.
I intend to only play MAME games.

Because I am going to have the 5th joystick in my panel, I don't believe I need to have switchable joysticks.
I prefer the lollipop/ball top joysticks which is good, since I would like to illuminate the joysticks as discussed in The Project Arcade book, and on this thread http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=114677.0

Do people agree that I do not need to get switchable joysticks, and instead should get 4 excellent 8 way and 1 excellent 4 way joystick?
I would prefer 1 true 4 way joystick so I don't experience any dead stick.

If that is the consensus, would you suggest these joysticks?

4-way: http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=340
8-way: http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=366

And then upgrade them per the thread.

As an alternative, I am willing to consider the joysticks from Paradise arcade, or if the GGG Ice sticks come in, those.

Thanks for the thoughts and opinions,

Dan
