Problem with Hanaho Hotrod wiring - Need assistance

Hello all:

I just added a new overlay to my Hanaho Hotrod Se and wired the joystick back up.

All the buttons appear to be working when I open a notepad.  The problem is when I hold down a button.  The keypress registers for 6 or 7 times and then stops.  The results in mame are that if you for example hold a direction on the joystick, the character will move for a second and then stop.  I then have to push in that direction to restart the character moving but it will just stop again.

I believe I wired everything to be normally open. 

This joystick was working properly when I last used it running win xp. 

I am using a new computer now (windows vista).  I have checked and sticky keys is off.

Anyone have a suggestion on what I am doing wrong?

Does it happen on every button or just a few?  Double check your wiring and make sure that you didn't put a disconnect on a NC lead.  Also make sure that your ground wiring is good too.  You may have one place that is off and that'll create a little havoc. 

It's an easy mistake to make so just take a few minutes and double check everything even if you already know it's right.  I've caught a few mistakes when I knew it was correct.

Check you num lock key.  Hanaho uses the keypad for keys so the num lock on/off can affect it.

Ok.  I have checked that all my wires have been wired correctly and the number lock is off but the problem still persists. 

I am wondering if the issue is that I am hooking up the hotrod through a ps2 to usb adaptor.  (it doesn't seem to get recognized if I just put it in the ps2 port directly even after a reboot).

My wireless usb keyboard works fine on this system and registers continued keypresses when you hold a button down.

Any suggestions?

The Hotrod never came with a USB adapter and Hanaho did not offer one.  A PS2 keyboard must be connected during boot for it to work properly.  It will not be recognized afterwards.   Your adapter could definately be a problem as USB was not sold with the Hotrod.   Do you have a PS/2 kb plugged into the hotrod?

Yeah....the ps2 to usb might be the problem.  I have no ps2 keyboard plugged into the hotrod.  I might have to dig out an old one to do some testing on the port.

I'm not convinced the encoder they used was very high quality.  I bought one of these years ago and the encoder was dead about 6 months later.  Might be worth your time to replace it with an Ipac or Keywiz.
