Hyperspin Wheel Text Overlapping
« on: September 23, 2011, 11:52:48 pm »
I know this isnt the HS forums but out of my half dozen posts there I've never had any luck so I'm here in the hopes that some fine BYOAC'r can help me out.

This topic can also be found on the HS's forum here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15060, another person here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?p=127053 & someone else has the same problem here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14992 but no resolution has been stated.

Here is my problem...

Fresh install of XP + all SP's & updates
Fresh install of Flash player, DirectX, fonts & etc
Up to date drivers installed direct from ASUS (all onboard) & again from Nvidia.com

Any ideas why this is happening to me?

Try playing with the background settings in the optimizer in HyperHQ, turn off animated backgrounds/artworks etc and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the suggestion but that does not help, bummer.

Its 100% software related, something is required that isnt packed in XP (I've tried 3 different versions now).

I can install Windows7 & it will work but when I install XP this happens.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

Are you able to use different fonts in HS? Why not try something standard like Arial if you can

Make sure all your Video drivers are updated and also Directx is installed.

Thanks for the input guys but no dice yet.

I have the latest DirectX, Flash, all current drivers & fonts installed.

I got HS to work on a hacked version of XP MCE but its too unstable of a build. It works with Windows7 too.... this is driving me crazy.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks

Honestly, I've never seen that issue... make sure that you are running HS 1.2, make sure that you have correct video and sound drivers installed for your hardware as well.

Hey Dazz thanks for the suggestions.

I've tried multiple OS's & 3 graphic cards (updated drivers too) + installed Flash, DirectX & C++ packages. Also I am using a seperate HD with HS1.2 so I know its not my HS as it works with other various hardware/software trials.

Still no luck & I'm not alone in this... there are 3 threads in HS about the same thing, I wonder what this problem is? I'm sure its some aux type of program just not sure which one...

I can get it going on W7 OEM (but Direct3d full screen 1080p conflicts occur so I cant use W7) & it also works on a hacked (and very unstable) version of MCE but when I use a OEM legit XP Corp discs I get problamatic results.

Something else you can try, If its not already set hyperspin to run at the same resolution as your desktop in hyperhq.

I am having the same problem as pinballwizard, tough I am seeing it with the game information in the lower left corner not clearing when updating and the Exit screen not rendering.

Just adding that it is not only pinballwizard, but I know people are thinking about it over at the hyperspin forums.
thanks,

Dan

Out of curiosity what is the text underneath the top layer, is it the same text or is it something different? Also what model is your video card?

Under the text would be the text from the previous game & so on, each title compounds!

I have tried the onboard GPU from my brand new ASUS MB (cant recall the model & I am at work now) + used a Galaxy - NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS 512MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card + a bad ass $200 GTX 460 heater of a card too = same ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- problem.

I used onboard on a bad ass MB (not sure of model) & had no issues with either the onboard or the 2 same GPU's itemized above.

Remember... the current MB & all GPU's work on Windows 7 & a hacked MCE so its mos def not hardware related. Thank god I have like 3 rigs & every OS known to man to eliminate each possibility.

There is something "packed" into certain windows versions that a few of us are missing & I cant wait to figure out what it is because for now I have to clone my personal HD just to play pacman FML.

Out of curiosity, what was the hacked version of Xp that you tried?  I've used an SP4 Vista look alike version that I can speak to.  If you can isolate the difference in drivers then you could slipstream just that missing part into a stable build of XP.

Pinball Wizard, is your machine hooked up to sound?
I wonder if a functioning sound output is needed...

I thought about this when i was playing with my working Hyperspin, but have not tried it on my non-working one.

I intend to try tonight.

I'm not really familiar with all that slipstream stuff (yeah I'm a noob) but brother if I knew what was missing I would prolly just install it on the OS now  ;D

Man I wish I knew what to look for to determine whats missing FML!!!

Its not sound related, its mos def a graphical software/config error found on several OEM versions of XP corp.

Hey Dan are you using corpXP too?

Hmmmmmmmm

I am on Win7 64 Bit SP1.

I get that the issue shouldn't be sound related, but i think that the issue is sound is failing during transitions, and this is error is cascading as a failure to not clear the screen, and thus the text gets overwritten.

I am going to try it out once I put my little one to bed.

Great news: It worked!

Plugging in headphones to my audio jack solved the problem.

It ends up that on my specific hardware even if the audio hardware/driver are configured, windows fails audio initialization (via windows DirectSound APIs) if no headphones or speakers are plugged in.

My hypothesis was correct - it looks like there is a bug in hyperSpin that if audio playback of sound during transitions fails, rendering of the game text AND rendering of the EXIT screen silently fail.

go ensure your sound hardware is setup correctly, and you should be good to go!

Yeah, the issue is that Flash/Action Script doesn't like to play content that has audio on hardware without an audio output.  It actually causes several strange issues with HyperSpin, but this just wasn't one that I've seen before.

Good to hear Dan!

Too bad I had speakers plugged into my rig during all testing  :'(

I will however reinstall audio drivers (onboard) when I get home & see if that helps but I ran all driver installs from my MB disc before.

What are DirectSound APIs?

Run the latest DirectX
Hmmm, I never noticed Windows XP being able to tell if there is a speaker hooked up or not. I know Windows 7 does, but I've never had an issue with XP not just trying to pump out sound without speakers hooked up. Maybe you need a new cheapy sound card? Try directX first though.

Thanks Dazz, and good luck pinballwizard on trying this out. scof, good suggestion.

PinballWizard, make sure that you don't have multiple audio drivers installed, and if you do check that hyperspin is setup to output the the one with the speakers. ARe you hearing audio output in hyperspin? if not, this is still likely your issue.

DirectSound is a DirectX technology within Windows that media applications/games use to talk to audio hardware.
Consider it a layer above the driver that makes all drivers and hardware look the same to a Windows application.
this way a windows developer can write software that makes sound, without really worrying about the intracies of the specific audio hardware/driver details.

Dazz, it may be worthwhile to get the word out that weirdness in hyperspin can be caused by audio not being configured up correctly, even for graphics issues.

I once made a Theme with HyperTheme and had something similar happen.  I’m not sure how it could have happened, but have you considered that the layout in the main theme may have somehow overlapped text boxes?  I wonder if you could open the theme in hyper theme and move the text boxes around so that they don’t overlap?
