Arcade Control Interface
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:58:20 am »
I am just starting my first build...a Weecade clone.  Wondering what would be the best USB interface option for a 2 player/6 button setup.  Taking into account price, functionality, and ease of setup, what is the best interface?  I-PAC2, Mini-Pac, GP Wiz40, XIN-MO.  The XIN-Mo seems like the best deal.  Is it junk?  What are the major differences between it and the I-PAC2 and GP Wiz?  Also, are there any retailers that sell everything in a kit? (Interface, joysticks, and buttons)  Thanks!

I have the same question about the xin-mo.  I am considering buying one and would also like to hear about the quality of them.

No more Weecades.

Please.

I've made it a point to start blocking users that crap on people's build ideas. Hell, I even removed my comments about your "rape is great" side art because it wasn't constructive. You need to learn to do the same thing.  Later Jim.

GregD, welcome to the forums. I don't have an answer to your question (I have tended towards padhacks so far) but the options you mention are popular and I am sure someone knowledgeable will chime in. I look forward to seeing what you create.
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

I am really not cloning the Weecade as mine will be quite different.  Just using the plans for scale.  Not looking for an authentic cabinet, just something that I can put on the tabletop.  Needs to be portable because it will go in unheated garage in summer and moved indoors in the winter.  I am a hobbyist cabinet maker so I can make a full sized cabinet but I am just looking for portability with this one and I am building it using leftover PC components and monitor so i don't want to heavily invest in the cabinet.  Thanks for everyone's replies so far.

Having used a 1 player Xin Mo and having a 2 player on the shelf my opinion so far is that they are OK if you want to save money but not as flexible as a keyboard encoder.  The gamepad controllers do not work well with some programs whereas the keyboard encoder seems to be able to make work.  You can get add on programs like joy2key and others but it adds an extra level of complexity for gamepad hacks and gamepad controllers.  IMHO If you are only making one bartop cab for yourself and want a top notch job then go for an ipac, minipac or keywiz.
