Arcade wiring connectors... what is the trick?
« on: September 13, 2011, 09:02:33 am »
Forgive what I am sure is a very stupid question. How do you disconnect these wiring connectors (in this case, on a 90s Williams cab control panel, pictured below) without breaking all the little white tabs off? I know they lift, and maybe a straightedge would lift them all at the same time? Advice appreciated!

Bonus question: do these connectors have a specific name?  ???

I don't know if I called them by the correct name or not, but I called these guys "inline molex connector headers" Chances are that I have been screwing the name up.

I don't know if this is the case for yours, but sometimes only one side of the connector has a tab holding it down. These connectors were on my first cab, and I spend a very long time trying to disconnect it from the tabbed side, only to find out after a lot of time and effort that I could have just pulled it apart from the other side of the connector. I'm crossing my fingers that is the case for you as well.

They just pull apart. Grip the clear connector housings and pull away from each other, one will come off the white header. If it's kind of stuck, wiggle back and forth a little to walk the connector off the header. You can see the tab that holds the other in place on the one that is partially broken...
