Hi folks. It's been nearly 2.5 years since I was able to work on an arcade cab and I finally got back to my portable unit and found that I stopped my wiring of the final part, a (I think, I forgot to measure it) 3in HAPP Trackball. It's the type in the full coverage, smooth sided, black shell and has a Red Trans ball for illumination from below.
I will be hooking this up to my MAME PC via the GroovyGear OPTI-Wiz (v1.0). The board has a Spinner on the Z-axis currently and seems to work just fine.
My question is wiring the trackball to the board using the following wires seen coming from the unit:
x1 Yellow, x1 Green, x1 Blue, x1 Brown, x2 Red, x2 Black.
Since I am rusty as all heck on cabinets due to my long vacation, I am at a loss to understand why the trackball has the 2 Red and 2 Black wires, each combined so they become just 1 Red and 1 Black on a single connector. I assume this is the 5v/Ground setup? Thus leaving me the Left/Right & Up/Down to be wired via the remaining 4 different colored wires? Just wondering which wires represent these directions and if I am correct on the Red / Black situation.
Also, am I correct that you can just measure the opening in the trackball face to determine if it's a 2.25in or 3in unit?
Any input is welcome and appreciated.
