GGG Trackball not moving/spinning
« on: September 08, 2011, 10:17:26 am »
Please consider me a rookie.   :)

I just mounted the trackball (Electric ICE-T™ Deluxe RGB Arcade Trackball V2.5 with the USB connection) and when I try to use it it does not spin.  I loosened the nuts holding it in place and then it spins.  If I leave it this way should I be worried about the nuts eventually falling off and the trackball falling?  Its seems that if you tighten the nuts the trackball enclosure has pressure applied to it and then the ball can no longer spin.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks

BobA

How did you mount the trackball in your CP?   Some pics might help.  The mounting screws should not compress the trackball housing and make it interfere with the ball rotation.

Thanks for responding BobA.  I mounted the trackball with the 3" GGG trackball mounting kit.  Here are two pics of the work in progress

I was able to tighten the mount bolts through my happ trackball enough to make it hit an occasional rough spot.  I think my routing left a less than perfectly flat plane under the CP, so it twisted the housing when everything was cranked down.  I spaced the top of the housing from the bottom of the cp with some rubber washers.  then, I used internal toothed lock washers (instead of split ring lock washers) and just snugged up the bolts.  holding fine so far.

I think you should loosen up on the screws.   Rubber or nylon washers  are a  good idea and if you are worried about the screws coming loose you can use a drop of locktite on the end of the screw that goes into the mounting plate.

TopJimmy you might be onto something.  Fitting the trackball in the routed whole is an extremely tight fit.  No wiggle room at all.  Maybe that is part of what is contorting the chassis.

For the trackball to really roll the bolts have to be almost completely un-done.

definitely make sure no wood is touching the sides of the trackball housing under the panel.  you can carve it out a little with a chisel or utility knife.
