That guy, Vcoleiro1 has posted build threads here, same screen name.  He's done a great job with them and +/- $300 us is probably the right money for those things.  they are cool.

They are arcade machines. He says so. Except they don't play arcade games. E for effort, though.

I never got the appeal of these tiny things.  Maybe as a desktop novelty, but it's cant be fun to play on them.  The GBA SP in its original form would be much more ergonomic.

Amazing what you find in the Main forum these days.

You know before I built these I thought as you do, that it would be hard to play these, especially seeing as Im 6' 6" in the old money with large hands.  However, I was very pleasantly surprised when I played them that they are in fact very easy to play. In comparison to the GBA SP, they are way more easy to play, especially if you play games that require diagonal movement . Thats not just my opinion but also that from the feedback I have received from those I have built one for.

I have also helped a loooot of people build there own, (one day I'll post a gallery of there work if they want me to).  And they are also very happy with what they have created. Some have used some pretty inventive things to create there own including other HW instead of a GBA and wireless inbuilt controls.

I wasnt going to say anything about this , but I know there are people on BYOAC who are contemplating building there own and probably have the same thoughts going through there minds. So basically Im saying if your contemplating building one of these and are worried about its playability, dont worry , as long as you dont make a hash out of the control and button arrangement it will be very easy to play.

Hey if its fun for you then great.  I just don't see the appeal.  I know some folks enjoy makeing models of things, so I kinda get that.  But then why wouldn't you make the model mini cabinet at least the same shape as the original?

Notice how your xevious graphics don't fit the profile, since the original cabinet has a different shape?

Who am I to say anything anyway, I have some odd hobbies Im sure people would think was strange or silly.  I just don't see the appeal.  But I also dont see the apeal of my buddy who makes 4ft long star trek enterprise models...  :dunno

I just cant justify the price tag, I blame the weak US dollar and exchange rates.
