Fix or ditch my arcade monitor ?

Hi guys,

I have a Street Fighter Zero 2 cabinet (aka Street Fighter Alpha 2).

When you power it up, it used to take about 40 minutes before the picture became viewable (I presume once the tube had warmed up).  After that, if you powered it off & straight back on again, the picture instantly appeared, as the tube was still warm.

But that was before.  It now seems to have got worse.  The last time I powered it up, alas, still no viewable picture after 40 minutes.

The monitor is a Videocolor A59EAS13X25.  The monitor chassis is a Glendale GE-728HR, with a testing certification dated June 26, 1992.  Please take a gander at the photos attached.

I know nothing about the guts of these monitors.  Perhaps it just needs something simple like a "horizontal hold" adjustment.  But I can't see any knobs for horizontal or vertical hold.

The monitor has three knobs for R-BKG, G-BKG, and B-BKG.  The monitor chassis has three knobs for R.GAIN, G.GAIN, and B.GAIN ... it also has knobs for B.ADJ, and PIN.CUSH ... it has a screw adjustment for U.LINE.

Guys, is it fixable ?      


Second question ... can this monitor be connected to a J-PAC ?

looks like a Vsync issue.

As for JPAC, yeah, since CPS2 is jamma, you can unplug the jamma harness and plug the JPAC in. YYou'll hafta wire up the kick buttons to the jpac instead of using the CPS2 kick harness.

Nope....thats a H sync problem. Try adjusting the H hold and see if that brings it into proper operation.

Definitely a loss of Sync..... first thing I would do is re-seat the video input connector and check for bad solder joints on those header pins for that connector.

BTW - that is a re-branded Wei-Ya chassis. (728HR)
Glendale/Eygo/Promax, etc, etc are all the same, they are just the name they were sold under.

Unfortunately though, I don't have the skill to fix it.

boardjunkie ... there's no "H hold" knob on the monitor or chassis board.  The only knobs that are visible, are those I've listed in my initial post.

Kev ... I've tried unplugging the Molex connections on the chassis board (that go the monitor), then plugging them back in.  But still no luck.

It appears my only option is to remove the monitor & chassis board from the cab, and put them out with the garbage.

Have you sent your question and video link to these guys? I listen to their podcast and they seem to have been able to diagnose many monitor and arcade board related problems...

If you're just going to trash them, then give or sell them to someone who does have the skill/motivation to fix it. If not the whole monitor then at a minimum the chassis. Drop the chassis in a flatrate box and send it to me if you don't want it

I'd really like to figure out how to fix the monitor.  It adds so much to the atmosphere of the games when you play them on a genuine arcade monitor.  An LCD display just isn't the same.

Do you happen to have another game board of some sort to test with? (any JAMMA game)
Just to see if it has the same issue.
