Laminate inside of cab?
« on: September 09, 2003, 10:03:31 pm »
Hello all,

After having the wood in my garage for about a year, I'm finally getting off my butt to build my cab. Got one side cut out yesterday. (not much, but it's a start)...

Anyway, I'll be laminating the panels because I'm using crappy particle board. The front panels- coin door panel, front of CP, etc. will not be flush with the sides. They will be set back ~ 1/2 inch which seems pretty typical from the examples I've seen. So the sides will overhang by 1/2 inch.

My question is: should I bother to laminate the inside of the side panels just so the overhang will look finished? Or should I just use paint for this small area? What have you folks done? Am I being too anal? Should I just shut up? ;-)

Help!

I think the decision is really up to you.  I personally would not leave that 1 inch margin unfinished.  Decide to use paint or laminate based on which you think would look better and difficulty.  If you do go with paint, I think painting that 1" before you laminate would be easier than after.

Thanks for the quick reply TalkingOctopus.

I guess I'm just wondering what others have done, and how they feel about it after the fact. Not really looking for what's "right" or "wrong", just opinions. (and possibly techniques if someone has addressed this issue before)

laminate if you got the cash

... paint if you don't  :)

you know you only need to cut out one side  ;D  (use a router and flush trim bit to create two identical side pieces in minutes  ;) )
