Gals Panic II Bares It All
« on: August 14, 2011, 01:37:49 pm »
I thought about putting this in the Restorations discussion, but I don't intend to bring this cab back to it's former glory (so to speak.)  The Wife isn't an arcade enthusiast, and the only reason I still have this cab is ... she doesn't know what it is.

So let's set the mood with a little music ...

From what you'll see in the photos that follow, this cab was on it's third conversion when I purchased it.  Someone brazed outlet box covers on the back of the CP to relocate the original joystick and two buttons, then upgraded it once past that.  The white residue on the inside of the CP is a result of brazing galvanized steel - not a good idea, as inhaling the vaporized zinc plating can make you very, very sick.

Curiosity got the better of me when I realized there was another CP overlay below the Gals Panic II one.  An industrial heat gun was instrumental in softening the adhesive.  Removal of all overlay materials took about 40 minutes, and didn't involve any harsh chemicals.  There's still some adhesive residue, but I'll pull the panel and give it an acetone wash outside.

Haven't got a clue what this was in it's previous lives.  The lower purple-stripey overlay could be Gals Panic, though it's awfully generic.  I'm at a loss to find a good image of an original Gals Panic CP ... searching for "gals panic" turns up many links about brides-to-be having issues with their plans/bridesmaids.

As far as I can tell that just looks like a generic "Cut Corner Dynamo cabinet".

Every one that clicked on this link was expecting arcade porn!

Funny thing is that in the mid 90's I was in Aruba a bunch of times, one of the hotels I think called the "Concord" or "Americana" had a Miss World 96' in the wild! it was nuts. The game if you don't know is more or less Qix, but with some fun pictures.

I thought I provided exactly that, what with the midi burlesque music and the control panel slowly removing her overlays.

Does look like a Cut Corner Dynamo, but the tag on the back says Model CIN.  As far as I know, that's not a Dynamo model type.  There are no other identifying marks on the chassis.  I've been over it with a fine toothed comb, a vacuum, and multiple cleaning agents, trying to eliminate the smell of cigarettes and sweaty teens.  There's no manufacturer's tag or original game designation.  I'm more curious than anything else.  Doesn't really matter, as I'm building a 4P control panel to replace the current one.

That's it!  Quarterback by Leland.  Thank you.
