Problems with my monitor

Before I explain what my monitor is doing, I need to explain what I did.

First off, this is my first arcade monitor. I'm usually a PC monitor kind of guy. The problem I was having was the horizontal width needed to be adjusted. I did this by adjusting the Horizontal Width Coil. I followed the tips as described here:



My horizontal width coil looked exactly like the one in the video. Using a hex key, I adjusted the coil a total of about a dozen turns clockwise with no result. I turned it counterclockwise about a dozen times and it started working. Another dozen turns and the picture filled up the tube. While the monitor does fill the screen, I have a new issue where the top portion of the screen appears to have no scan lines while the rest of the screen has heavy scan lines. Any sprites or images that go through the top portion appear to wave as they go through.

I haven't tried to adjust the coil back. I figured I better ask for help before doing anything else. The image below shows the portion of the screen which is giving me trouble.

I hate to say it because it becomes a bit of a cliche answer around here but have you done a cap job on this monitor.
I know that a lot of issues like width and tear can be related to certain bad caps.
what model monitor is it?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely look into it. I think my next step might be to adjust the horizontal width coil back to how it was to see if the problem goes away.

How about the other adjustments too? I know for me, I usually kinda mess around with the different pots and see what changes. It seems like the problem can even be a vertical adjustment because it is in the top of the monitor.

good suggestion. I'll take a peak.

I must have some MAME setting wrong because the game on the screen is Bump'n'jump and it's stretching it full screen for some reason.

I recently had a monitor where the pixels were all weird and stretched. I had some kinda brain fart and it took my a while to notice that the vertical size was way huge. after turning down the vert size, it looked great.
