Mini-Pac Failed to Program
« on: August 07, 2011, 01:50:30 pm »
Hello folks,
I’m in desperate need of some help. However, in advance I must warn you that this is my first time messing with any of this stuff.

Basically, I purchased a control console from DreamArcades and one of those USB Mini-Pacs (Rev_0024) along with it. However, I’m running into difficulty programming the keys. I downloaded the utility from the website and tried mapping the keys. But after I hit the “program” button I get an error that says “Failed to program device. Try reinstall with board connected and/or reboot. “

I’m not sure what to do.  I searched the forum and tried some of things suggested but still no luck. Please advise.

Okay chap, I'll try and help you.

I had the same problem with a Minipac on my bartop in 2007, I think I may have a different one but the same should still apply.

Can you go into Device Manager.

Are there any yellow exclamation marks anywhere? Can you try right clicking on the "composite device" listed under "USB controllers" then click on "scan for new hardware" at the top of the window.

Let me know what you see.

May need a registry tweak.

That's the thing, windows recognizes the control console. There are no yellow exclamation marks and the buttons on the console are already assigned to some keys. But those buttons need reassigned to new keys.

That's where the registry entries come in, mine was exactly the same - just taking your through steps in case it wasn't recognised.

Let me know if you haven't fixed it by tonight and I'll post up, hopefully should sort it.

You might have to run WiniPac as administrator the first time and also after changing usb ports, depending on you OS.

Also check if you have the correct board / connection setup in the options menu.

Still not working. I've tried different USB ports and different operating systems (XP, Vista, Win 7). And I ran it as administrator on each one. I've also tried every single board/connection set up in the options menu.

Problem solved. I was accidentally given a minipac with a modified firmware version. I exchanged it for a regular one and all is well.

Some MiniPacs like the Uhid based one you posted should be programmed as if it is a iPac4 if I'm correct. I've a mail conversation with Andy somewhere, and I guess that was the solution.

Err no. No MiniPacs are programmed as I-PAC 4!
The OPs problem was actually an issue which Dreamarcades needed to rectify and did so.
