MaLa with 2 player opposite side cocktail set up
« on: August 04, 2011, 08:46:59 pm »
I'm getting back to my MaLa cocktail (Ms Pac style) project after almost a year off and I have one remaining issue.  I'd like to use MAMEs "-view cocktail" setting for two player co-op or head-to-head games.  This uses two small views of the same screen so both players can play at the same time.  What I'd like to do is have a game list that is for 2 players and uses the "-view cocktail" setting for all games in the list.  I'd like to have all other game lists use the standard -view setting.  So if you play something like Bubble Bobble with 1 player you'll see a single view of the screen but if you play from the 2 Player list you see the two small views of the screen.

Is there an easy way to do this or do I have to use a plugin?

BTW, I did search and couldn't find anything similar to what I'm looking for.  A batch file will almost work but I don't see a way I can identify which game list MAME is being started from.

the way I would do this is launch a game that you want in split screen mode, then press TAB and adjust the settings until it is in that mode.  It's sticky from that point on; every time you launch that game, it'll show up in that mode.

No muss, no fuss with lists, command line switches or anything else.  Yeah, it'll take a bit of time to set all the games you want in this mode, but that''s the type of work that requires a beer and friend, so it's not so bad.

Right, I have done exactly what you describe and that works fine for me.  The problem is that other people using the cab won't have any idea how to do it.  I'd like a way to do it programmatically so others won't have to know/learn the "trick".

Yeah,

Not sure MaLa can help here.

The MAME data on this does not include this info  :-\
