Should I go for this?
« on: August 02, 2011, 10:24:42 pm »
On my local Cragislist a guy is selling a Sega Turbo sit-down game for $100.

I just discovered the wonderful world of arcade building, and my goal is to make a 2-4 player cabinet. Is it possible to do with this game? E.g. part it / modify it
Or is it just a good buy regardless?

Thanks in advance!

Well, if it's the sit down game I'm seeing when I looked it up, I have a difficult time imagining how you'd make it a 2 much less 4 player game.

But, if the cabinet's in good shape, and you have room for a large sitdown like that, 100$ seems like a fairly good deal to me.

Yes....but it really qualifies as a 'classic'.

Oh, so 100$ gets you a working game? Hmm, if that's the case, sure you could probably reuse some of the components (esp the monitor if it's still in good shape.

But there are also a lot of collectors interested in those kinds of cabs (esp if they're still in decent shape, and definitely if they're still working).

You might pick it up for 100$, clean it up, give it a gentle restore and resell it to a collector, the use the cash to buy a gutted cabinet.

If the boards are still in it, you might donate them to the Mame team also (if they need them).

Well looks like somebody bought it before me :/
I was most likely just going to re-sell it and use the money for my custom one, but oh well I guess

I definitely agree. there are so many other ways to build a mame cabinet. Don't tear apart a classic.

Too bad.  I'm curious how you would have made it into a 4p cab :duckhunt  I'm picturing wings attached to the side for the other players.

I agree with more then half the people here.  I DON'T KILL THE CAB.   :soapbox:

PLEASE.  If you can find a working cab for $100 i'm sure you can find in old cab for $100 or less
