4/8-way switchable leaf joysticks
« on: September 07, 2003, 09:32:28 pm »
Is anyone familiar with these joysticks?  I saw a post in RGVAC where Mike said he just got these in.  From the product info, they appear to be a direct replacement for the 3.5" Wico leaf sticks.

Do they use a 4/8 way restictor plate like the Japanese sticks or just a different actuator like the Happs?

Either way its nice to see leaf sticks still being made.

They look like the same Wico look alikes that are on Ebay and I think a couple guys around here have em. I remember someone complaining about them because they don't have the diamond restricter hole for true 4-way feel. Probably because there 4/8-way switchable and they need to have an open round hole in order to work as an 8-way. I'm not sure if these are them but they sure look like em. I wish someone would offer a true 4-way leaf stick again but I don't see it happening since leaf switches aren't very popular with operators anymore and there aren't many (if any) new games that use dedicated 4-ways let alone the leaf switch type so I'm guessing that the only new leaf switch sticks you're likely to see will be these "one stick does it all" jobs. :-\  I hope I'm wrong.

I saw Mike's post, and being a diehard leaf stick fan I ordered a pair to test out.

Please let us know what you can find out!
I wonder if they are easy switchable from 4 to 8-way? Guess not, but if they would do I really need one for my one-player-controlpanel. Though I like Andy's J-Stick very much a switchable leafstick would be perfect as this is my "classics"-panel!

Otherwise, for the future-twoplayer-panel I luckily got two good old Wico's on ebay last year :)

I do have one of these (or, at least it looks EXACTLY like it, and it is a non-WICO).

It has two different sized actuators, one for 4-way and one for 8-way (just like the Happ's Supers).

It DOES have two diamond shaped restrictor holes, just like the WICO's do.

If you use the 4-way actuator, it works great.  The 8-way actuator is just larger, so that it will hit diagonals as well.

Then again, the one I have may not be the same one, but is sure looks like it...and it was advertised as a switchable 4-way and 8-way.

Hope this helps!

They're just the Centsible sticks (with a higher price).

I thought I'd bump this thread back to the top in the hope that someone has now had a chance to try out one of these joysticks. I'm curious to know how well they work in 4-way mode.

Thanks in advance

I've recieved them, but haven't had a chance to try them in a cab. On first impression they seem pretty comparable to my NOS Wico 4 way leaf joystick. They're close enough of a copy that the parts will interchange with the Wico.
