Extending Controller Cords?
« on: September 06, 2003, 09:03:28 pm »
Hey guys I am building an arcade stick for a friend but the cord on the PCBs I am using are too small. I was wondering, could I splice the wires from the cord and extend them? I mean is the response of the button spress going to be the same or will it lag? Also if that works could I use a converter on it? I mean I used a extension cord and then a converter and I noticed a lag, I mean I REALLY noticed it. I was wondering if the same thing would happen. Any information would be great. Thanks in advance. Thanx.

What cords are you referring to?  The wires that go from the buttons and joystick into the encoder?  Or the cord that goes from the encoder to the computer?

electrons travel at the speed of light.  In most cases, you can extend wires without noticing a thing.

Did you try using it with the converter but not the extension cable?  (When you say converter, I think you mean you're doing a playstation hack and using a PSX->PC converter, or something similar)  Some converters are naturally laggy, and extending wires shouldn't make much of a difference.

*edit* as in, get a different PSX converter if that is the case
