So my marquee and side-art should be made from...
« on: July 20, 2011, 05:59:24 am »
what exactly?

My marquee - It is not going to be lit and It will be slit in-between two pieces of plastic (the front visible from the front of the cab & having a rectangular gap to enable you to see the marquee), and then the two pieces of plastic will be screwed together tight. Should it be a certain type of card or should it be made from something else? Should it be laminated or is there something better?

My side-art - should this be a large sticker, if so, should the sticker have a certain coating? Should it be made from a specific type of card? Should it be made from something else? Again, should it be laminated or is there something better?

Everything will be designed and ready for printing soon, so I need to find out what I need doing and then get it done.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

Seriously, just have http://www.gameongrafix.com print it if you want it done right.

Oh, an unlit marquee will look like ass.

Get some white board paint and edge light some plexi for your marquee.  Have some dry erase markers around and just graffiti that ---smurfette---!

It will look like ass?

Ouch, though I'm sure I will think the complete opposite, though I know it would look better lit up.

Anyway though, I'm not American so I do not want to use GameOnGrafixs as there are, for example, these guys avalible http://arcadesales1.shopping.officelive.com/CustomArtwork.aspx

However, I don't want to come across as incompetent to the guys who will be creating the physical copy of my artwork and telling me how much everything is going to cost. To not do this, I need to know exactly what I want before hand. So I am asking you guys, deep in wisdom as you are, to tell me what is the best way to produce a marquee and side-art?

Edit:

I'm going to reword my questions, I didn't make it that clear.

How should the artwork that will be fit inside the two pieces of plexiglass be printed. Should it be on card (if so, what type of card exactly) or something else? Also, should I ask for it to be laminated or is there a better way?

I'm seeing quite a few examples of what seems to be large stickers being used to produce side-art. Is that what I should ask for - a sticker? Should I be asking for a type of finish to make it look better?

I'll appreciate the help guys.

I have found out what I needed to know from somebody that I trust.

I will probably post what that is tomorrow, in an effort to possible help people wondering the same as I was. I can't now - I think I'm about to pass out from exhaustion at any minute lol I need some sleep.

If your marquee won't be illuminated, I would think glossy photo paper should be fine. Thickness isn't too big a deal if it'll be sandwiched in plastic.

^ Which is what I found out. Thanks.

Also, I just need the standard sticker type, for my side-art.

Edit: Furthermore, I found out that laminating is for protection yet the plexi also does this, & that laminating the artwork should not be required, if one is using plexi.
