  • I want my own arcade controls!
So I picked-up a used ElO 15" Touchscreen monitor on Ebay back when everyone on here was picking them up, got it at a great price I think under $40 if I remember right.  Been chipping away at a build for a jukebox tabletop for my bar and the woodwork is almost complete.  So I'm basically to the point where I need to decide what buttons to install on the mini-cabinet and need to make sure I know how it's all going to work before I finailize the build/paint/and touchscreen/bezel installation.

The Juke is just going to be a "shell" build with the ELO touchscreen and a bezel w/ light.  I plan to house an old desktop PC behind the wall (in a closet) with all the MP3s, running a front end that I already installed, but forget which one now, could look it up if needed.

Question #1
What is the best way to power up and power down the Juke.  I've seen others install a power button (standard video game pushbutton and wire it to the motherboard, but I've never done this.  I printed a post that Fordman threw up a while back that shows you can hardwire the power on/off button to the motherboard at the –PW- pin/s on the motherboard, but have never done this before.  If this is the best way to do it I could use a recommendation on the harness I need to buy to wire it up.  Open to any other suggestions as well.  Also, will this power up both the PC and the ELO monitor at the same time or will I need to keep the PC running concurrently and this will only power up/down the ELO?  Either would work I suppose.  The front end I have installed will allow my to powerdown the PC as well which I know is better than a “hard kill” of the PC.

Question #2
I plan to house a LED strip of lights to power a bezel above the ELO that says something like “JukeBox”.  Is there a way to power up and down that in conjuection with the powering up/down of the ELO?  And/or desktop?  If not I can add a power button to the back of the cabinet build and turn on the bezel for parties I suppose.  If I need to do that any suggestions on what hardware to buy to do that so it looks nice and slick?

Question #3
I’ve spent much time finding pictures for the Jukebox build, is there an easy way to update your music and covers from time to time?

That’s all I can think of for right now, pretty excited about the build… thanks in advance for your help fellow BYOACers!!!

If you look up the manual for your m/board it will show you which pins are for power button! It doesnt matter which way they go around as long as its a loop with a "momentary" button in the middle. A flicky on permanent switch is no good! Something like a pushbutton is ideal. You can pull some old header pins with wires on them off any old m/board you have lying around scrap and use them to connect it.

As long as the power is going to the ELO and its connected via normal VGA cable it should start screen also (Although I've never used 15'' bezel free one you have so not 100%)

You could take 12v from your PC's power supply to power them. Just a matter of connecting to the yellow and black of any of the spare wires.

If not I can add a power button to the back of the cabinet build and turn on the bezel for parties I suppose.  If I need to do that any suggestions on what hardware to buy to do that so it looks nice and slick?
It will probably be 12v so just a power supply and a switch.

Alot of jukebox software has this built in, so might be worth checking. Its a real pain this part if you have large collection

you could use the hibernate option for windows for power up and down or wire up a momentary switch as suggested

media monkey is a great program to sort your albums out and retag them , once you get your head around it its very easy and quick and does a great job and its free

hello
as i stated up
most if not all motherboard bios allow for the :auto-power-on-fuction:

The elo is powered from a 12v rail, your coumpter power-supply will provide this
u just simply plug and play

most if not all juke-box's :computer-style: will allow for 1000's of title's

Personally i love the flex that :vtockola: and or :sdk: give u
as long as there a listed ablum.converted they will see and play them

I have all format's in reguard's to storage device's used
ie hard-drive/external-harddrive/usb-stick etc

The power switch on the computer's power supply is as a rule all u need
to fully :ac: the unit off,if the bios is set right once it is powered on :ac: switch the mobo should load all the way

The led's should as a rule pose no problem for the putter power-supply
if it is a decent power  ie 350watt or better

Your main concern should be the amp..ie 5.1-sround,straight stereo etc

  • I want my own arcade controls!
Thanks for all the help guys!  The box build has taken me a little longer than expected due to life, but thats the beauty of a project.. always something to look forward to!  So does anyone happen to have a couple extra old header pins with wires on them off any old m/board?  I got no extra old mother boards lying around unfortunately.  I can pay for shipping to Wisconsin.
