TMNT Marquee wip, update to 1989 Orig marquee
« on: July 05, 2011, 08:33:48 am »
Hi everyone, I am seriously considering replacing the marquee in my TMNT cab with an 'updated' version, but in keeping with the theme of the older turtles (1987) style.

Here is my wip, just wanted some feedback on it  :)

I am thinking of adding Krang, Shredder & April on this also, just difficult finding some good vectorized graphics  :(

cheers

Gav

those characters are really easy to trace. just take the plunge.

you will spend time on the first one, less on the second one last one will be a matter of 10-15 minutes.
I'm on the planning stage

Hi Gav

I'm liking the updated marquee.
I've just got my hands on a TMNT cab - any chance you've got a scan of the 4 player CPO?

I love the theme idea. I know the turtles look pretty much identical except for their bandana colors, but Leo and Don look almost identical in that shot. Maybe try angling the head differently or shading their skin tone a slight different green.

Oh, maybe you can find a image of the party wagon or blimp for the background. If all else fails, throw a pizza in the background.

** update **

So I am leaning towards this being my final design for my New tmnt marquee before I put my order in!

I changed out the turtles, to more of an action stance, and showing their bodies rather than having floating heads lol

I also added some other supporting characters to it, It might be a little busy, but to me without the supporting characters it's kinda bare

comments welcome

Gav.

It has sort of a clip art look to it. The characters shown are of different scales and aren't really all connected together in any real fashion. I liked the first one a lot better.

Krang looked cropped.

Also, is Casey Jones even in the game?

Color scheme doesn't match the rest of the cabinet at all.

Paige has a good point. Notice how the turtles are outlined in black, but no one else is? That's part of the disconnect.

Yea-Na just not feeling it yet. too much clip art?

solutions - find one good picture of say shredder and krang and enlarge them to take up both left and right side. Sort of like they are imposing on the turtles.
Just a thought...
My art is always free for you to download and modify as you see fit...
Why?... because I could never find any art I loved on the net. So I played around with Photoshop and wish to share it with the arcade community.

Okay, here is my new version of the TMNT marquee for my arcade machine, resized to 300dpi, approx 40MB in size, ready for printing  :P

comments, critiques are always welcome  ;D

I left some space at the top and the bottom of the pic to take into account the marquee holder at the top and bottom of the marquee metal holders. So it minimizes any chance of hiding the actual artwork.

cheers

Try getting rid of the purple and do brick work all the way up, I think that might look a little better

Darken up your bricks a bit too and use real blacks on the lines. Almost every bit of arcade art I ever get printed comes out a bit paler and with less contrast than the original files, so you don't want to start with anything too pale and low contrast.

Did anyone else wonder why there's a manhole cover on the wall behind the turtles, or is that just my perspective?

I like the manhole cover design and the green ooze.
