Tron and Perfect 360's
« on: September 04, 2003, 03:06:34 pm »
Has anyone tried Happs Perfect 360's (with the appropriate handle hack) with Tron yet?  How were your results?

After a few months off, I'm getting the mame fever again!

I imagine they'd work a lot like other 8-way joysticks, just a bit more precise on where the angle divisions are.

Tron 2.0?  please do tell....   what's this?

I have a perfect 360 joystick and once tried it with tron, it works
OK on every screen except the light cycles.  I've also tried it
with a microswitch trigger joy, and that same joystick with
leaf springs "grafted" onto it.  It seems that Tron used a diamond
shaped hole to allow restricted 8 way.  Some Tron guru can
probably elaborate more.

They do claim to be both 8 and 4-way. I'm not sure how they switch from one to the other. If its done electronicly then there may be a way to hack a switch into the wiring so that it could be switched quickly from 8 to 4 during game play but honestly I don't really know if thats possible. I'd talk to one of the Happ techs or maybe Oscar or Andy as they might know weather a toggle switch would or wouldn't interfere with the sticks internal electronics. Even if they could be made to switch modes on the fly you still have to contend with working a joystick a spinner and a fire button all at once. Unless you have a dot spinner that is.

You have to open the joystick, flip the accuator, and put the stick back together to switch for 8 way to 4 way.  Oscars Controls has a review page that talks about this quite well.  Look at the (correct) picture.
