Managing Multiple Keyboards
« on: July 01, 2011, 10:42:23 pm »
I have a regular keyboard and an I-PAC installed in a Windows system.  Sometimes when I boot up, the keyboards IDs get mangled such that my I-PAC is now the 'main keyboard'.  Is it possible to control the keyboard IDs for each device?

This becomes a problem when A) In MAME I need to reassign buttons because instead of being "Keyboard 1 Button X" they are now all "Keyboard 2 Button X" B) On a PC game such as Street Fighter IV, if the I-PAC is the main keyboard, I have no way to start the game because I have not even wired the appropriate buttons (if I uninstall the I-PAC device, my real keyboard becomes usable).

Any common solution to this?

I've never had that problem, but the keyboard I use is old school, so it connects via PS2 port. It could be that the PS2 port is "always" considered the main keyboard. Not sure.

Have you tried the passthrough that paul mentioned?

No, I havent, but that's a good idea.  I would really like to avoid opening the panel at this point, so I was hoping for a software fix.  I actually have 3 keyboards installed: one Bluetooth keyboard, one PS/2 keyboard, and the I-PAC.  I will browse around for something over the next few days.
