RecRoomMasters experience?
« on: June 30, 2011, 07:14:06 pm »
As I near the completion of my Jamma 60-in-1 project I am looking around for a prebuilt Cab for Mame. I came across a company called RecRoomMasters. Their standup cab seems good and the price is right.

Anyone have any good / bad / ugly experience with them here? I did a search on them and came up empty. They have a great eBay rating.

Thanks!

looks cool for newbie but once you get involved and more experience you'll be sorry you invested in one of those cabinets. In the end you'll want the most authentic cabinet you can design, so one someone comes over they will never know your arcade has a PC inside

But...there isn't one, because he has a 60-in-1. Besides, all arcade games have computers in them, now.

Still. Do you want an X-Arcade panel in there?

What ever the case may be ever cab the the reec room has doesnt look authentic. no coin door keyboard draw :laugh2: doesnt make sense. If you have 60 in 1 thats even more of a reason to get a real cab plus it way cheaper

i gotta go with mouse and agree. gotta love the coin door draw. and i think when someone see that pre-built cab, they know its been bought and not like custom made. if you dont have the tools, ability, whatever, to build your own custom cab, maybe look into buying one off of craigslist and somehow restore or remodel that one. ive seen some very interesting ones in my area and it would be cheaper and also you may find one with that classic arcade cabinet look.

Having built my cab and having it about 90% done, I have to say that the two things I would have to have in a cab are LED lights and the coin door.  These are the best wow factor elements.  The LED lights are great if you use them in conjunction with CP wizard, your cp pops up and tells the player what buttons do what, and then the only buttons that are lit on your CP are the ones used for the game.  This is awesome, makes the cab super friendly to play and makes it feel very custom.  The coin door though, is the real winner.  Just the look on people's faces when you hand them some tokens and the say "this thing really works!" is priceless.

How exactly would you suggest he do that with a 60-in-1 board?  This won't be a MAME, it will be a JAMMA style board with an old MAME version on it (basically).  He can't do any of the custom stuff that a PC version could do.

If the 60-in-1 is JAMMA, then you'll be buying that cab with no JAMMA capabilities (PSU, video, etc) and adding it back in, won't you?  Does that make sense over buying a cheap conversion cab and swapping the board over?  Maybe there's an easier way to make that RecRoom cab work that I'm not seeing.

I think 60-in-1s were first made for coin-op - I've seen them on location - so they must have a header or something for a 'coin up' button.

Read the first post again, he said hes finished up a 60-in-1 in one and is now looking for a prebuild for MAME.  So it IS for a MAME cab.

I've been researching cabs too and was looking at their stuff.  I also found these guys.  Their stuff seems nicer but a bit more expensive.

I ordered a cab from recroom masters. They were legit. I have 8 arcades and I bought the recroommasters cab because it was my first arcade and i already had an xarcade tank stick. I have no complaints. Its nice that its small. I can put it in places a normal full size arcade cant go. The only thing I dont like about it is they dont make a square LCD monitor larger than 19 inches. I would love to have a square 25 inch LCD in it =)
Cabs: Tron, MKII, MK4, KI2, Blitz99, TMNT, Pac-Mania, Defender, Mame Box.
PCBs: MK1, UMK3, Killer Instinct, Area51, Sunset Riders, Pit Fighter, Wargods.
Pins: Bride of PinBot, Attack from Mars, The Shadow

I have a Mameroom cab (build link: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=111131.0). Great, solid piece of kit with all the authentic trimmings. It's just pricey.

Yes, my 60 in 1 Jamma is a true coin op, not a custom built cab.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Since my first post I've added a Super Pac-Man (original) and a 1982 Rowe R-88 Jukebox to the room. I like the authentic look of everything in the room so I think will just find an old beat up / gutted authentic cab and turn it into a Mame machine.

 This company is worthless, waste of my time and money. Seriously they say that the skin may be off by 2 or 3 mm. In reality all the holes for the controls are off by that much in every direction. The image looks like they had a drunk at the controls. If I were drunk the image would be clear and more like my origional design. The quality of the decal is that of a cheap sticker. The customer service is non existant and when they do respond they do not answer any questions or provide any help. The decal came on a roll full of air bubbles and wrinkles, it doesnt stick between the buttons no matter how many times you smooth it out and it made my perfect project look like a second rate machine. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THESE IDIOTS! Got quality decals from game room graphix and they make perfection, wish I had went with them from the start. You wanna waste some time and money then go with recroom.

I agree the tankstickskin did not go on like the video they show.  It doesn't line up and took forever to apply i thought it would be a thicker decal like the one for the keyboard drawer...but it is of good quality and didn't bunch up and stick together when i kept having to take it off and try again.  The holes do reveal some of the X-arcarde red underneath which is not good..but the excellent artwork draws the attention awayfrom that.
My experience with the website was very good and I like my cabinet. It is not PERFECT but it is still very impressive looking.

If you're in the US, you can't beat HaRuMaN. If you're in Canada, I'll be producing high quality cabinets shortly.

Thumbs up for Rick's earlier cabs.  Got a cocktail from him and it was first rate.  Should be even better when he has nailed down his full selection of cabs.   Good choice for Canada.
