Rowe R-89 question on Popular selection

I just replaced my battery with a new holder and a diode on the CCC.  Everything seams to work after that for a few weeks and then recently when I press the "popular selection" it will not play that song listed.  It started playing song 100, then 101, then 102, then 103 in that order and continues to do that.  Does anyone know why this is happening?
