having a hard time with a mortal kombat
« on: June 29, 2011, 02:08:35 pm »
Ok,
i have a mortal kombat machine that a friend asked me to work on.  Here is the problem.  The machine had a bad power supply, i replaced it with a switching unit.  I cannot get any sound out of it.  I know the boards are good because i checked them with my own Mortal Kombat setup.  Is there something i should be looking for, because i really cannot figure it out!

Try turning the volume pot?  I know my volume pot in my MK is a little flakey...

You should see it when you open the coin door...

did you already try a different jamma board in the cab for sound?
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Other jamma boards work with sound?

Is Mortal Kombat one of those games where you have to go into service mode to adjust the default volume?  I know I had to do that with MKII and MK3 (the Mame versions, that is).

Could be a short in one of the wires. I would also try taking a multimeter to each end of every speaker/volume wires to make sure you are getting a connection.

Check the ribbon cable between the sound PCB and MPU. Make sure its on correctly(red stripe to pin 1 on both sides). Try squeezing the connectors with pliers. I have an NBA Jam out that has a flaky ribbon cable.

All cables that go between sound pcb and MPU present?

-5v present?
