And think about this hooked up with the the config database coming out!  Have a joystick and this.  Then project the buttons for that game!  (ok, this would be cool.. but unpractical and probably too slow... but still would fun)

actually.... you can have a virtual keyboard in your cab...

that's pretty good !!...

I wonder how accurate it is....
and how fast it can manage to capture....

cos if its by movement... it might suck...
(I like to put my fingers on the keys all the time....
typing means applying pressure.... but with virtual keys...
that probably means I have to lift my finger and press again for a press....)

well.... its just a prototype.... we'll see....

There was something on /. like this a little while ago - pretty darn neat!  Just think when you need to enter someone's name into your cell - just set in on a table and type it in!  Cool!

I was using one of these a few weeks ago at Siggraph.  It was okay.  Fairly accurate with most of the letters.  You had to make sure your fingers came straight down on the 'buttons' to get it to sense the correct 'button' press correctly.

I've seen these before.  I don't think this would be any good for gameplay, as you can't feel the "buttons", and would have to constantly look down to see what you were hitting.  Real physical arcade buttons are best for arcade games!  It would be great for cab maintenance though -- hit a switch and the keyboard suddenly appears on your CP!  Might have problem with lexan tops though...

If there is one thing I have learned from star trek, it's the fact that even in the 24th century, the most sophisticated input method used for anything important is a regular old 1990's touch panel.  

The reason being is us human types need to feel that the button is pressed or else we don't trust it.  Keep your fancy lasers for other uses.

Now that would be cool to use if you had a friend over, who was admiring your cab and something went wrong, so you needed to "debug" it.
