VGA to DVI LCD problem
« on: June 24, 2011, 11:57:31 pm »
Sorry this is pretty much elementary PC question but its effecting me playing my MAME I bought HP LP2065 20-inch LCD Monitor

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12377_na/12377_na.PDF

This monitor Works amazing DVI to DVI but when i try to hook it up VGA to DVI it goes into sleep mode, tried different cables, bios even differnet computer but still goes to sleep mode.

The reason why im going back to VGA is i have the scanline generator SLG3000 which is VGA

Any thoughts or solutions Im using the on board VGA video card ( could it be under powered for LCD)

there is 3 versions of DVI

DVI with analog (DVI-I)

and

DVI digital only. (DVI-D)

and

DVI analog only (DVI-A)

sound like you have digital only.

it's more than that... the monitor must support analog on the DVI in order to display it.  Most monitors have only DVI-D connectors. You can't plug a DVI-I cable into a DVI-D monitor because the cable won't fit in the connector. DVI-I has extra pins where there are not sockets on the DVI-D

this is precisely why DVI fell off in favor of HDMI... all sorts of connectors that look the same but are completely incompatible.

if it would work... you need this:

edit -  iv'e read and read and read the document you supplied, it says it's compatible, it seems like it should be... yet it seems not.

edit2 - i still hate HP...and dell...and compaq.... and....

so you have a VGA to DVI-I cable/adapter then?

okay... ya you'll need to ditch the DVI-D cable and get the adapter or cable "vga to DVI-I"

I'm having the same problem with two cards ATI 4320HD & X1800 and the second monitor is connected either by DVI or HDMI via DVI and my 2nd monitor goes to sleep. I have three altogether and monitor 1 & 3 stay on.

If you are running Windows 7, then its a issue with the OS as I have the same setup running with XP and I have no monitors going to sleep however connected.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.
