If you were Indiana Jones you would, at least if you weren't busy killing Nazis.  ;D

It would be irresponsible for me to take my daughter on a nazi killing mission.

I hate the "well your Kid should be writing pen pal letters to poor kids in Kenya"  bit, if someone plays games with their kids, lets not assume that they are locking the kid up in a window-less room for hours at a time 7 days a week...

Children 5 or 6 should be in bed by 7pm.  ::)

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

riiiight, and I get home from work at 6, so you are saying I should go home feed my child and put her to sleep and not interact with her at all?  Yeah, that's good advice....

Since girls are people too, maybe just ask her what her favorite games are.

Ah, at least you've downgraded it back to "work".  For awhile it was "managed" and I kept waiting for the day you were going to say "owned."

Geez, do I have to break out the paystubs?!

Yes, I managed a namco owned mall Arcade for 3yrs.  No, Ive never owned one.

As for the MK comments.. Kids know the difference between pretend violence, and real violence.  Watch some kids cartoons someday.  Especially the older stuff like Tom & Jerry, and Roadrunner.  Characters hit each other with frying pans, setting fire to each other, and much worse.  And if you think thats bad, go back to the B/W cartoons, and it gets even more violent.

Kids get the most of their morals from watching their parents 'live'.  If their parents are nice, polite, kind hearted...  they will tend to be that kind of person (or grow into that kind of person).

But if the parent is violent, hits the kids often, screams and yells all the time..etc..  the kids usually repeat that behavior.   If the parents lie often, are ruthless or cold, snooty, etc.. again, kids will pick up on these traits.  It could take years for them to un-learn these things, "IF" they ever get to that point.

Media has some effect on people, but you cant think that seeing a killing on a tv screen, is going to produce people that want to, or actually go out and kill others.

Maybe they dont know their Favorites yet, but they should have the chance to decide for themselves, just like the boys.   Far too many people try to 'make' girls like things, rather than letting them decide what they like.  Then the girls tend to feel like they are not supposed to like certain things... like RC cars, video games..etc.

I don't know about museums but, my two little girls read better than some of the middle school age kids I teach at a community day school. I don't lock them in a windowless room with video games. They spent the morning horse back riding with mom, the afternoon rafting at the lake with dad,and the evening playing trog (after dinner) before going to bed and reading dad a Clifford the big red dog book. :soapbox:

I think the video games are good for their coordination development.

Regardless, TROG IS A HUGE HIT WITH MY 5 AND 6 YEAR OLDS! They go nuts when they eat a pineapple, turn into a T-Rex, and then get to eat the bad guys.  :applaud:
They treated me like an animal and that's what I became.

And all these years I thought Trog was a terrible game, turns out the problem was that I'm not a 6 year old girl.

Thats funny. I always thought that WAS your problem.

My friend's kids like the Sailor Moon game. It's a Final Fight clone. Lots of punching and kicking, but no blood.

Try the Puzzle Bobble games, I don't know anyone who doesn't like those games.
