The link shows my near finished effort at adding an animated turntable to my skin. Thanks to fellow-dwjukebox user TED over on the developer's site forum for suggesting this and working with me to make it a reality. It's not perfect, but it is pretty cool, IMHO.
The screen was captured with CAMSTUDIO, which apparently has some trouble capturing a widescreen display. There's no sound, either. But here's what you're seeing. I apologize for not editing out my desktop, etc...but it's late and I wanted to post this tonight.
1. Dwjukebox starts. A user-specified image (pic1.jpg) shows up...mine is the RCA Nipper the dog with grammophone.
2. The skin comes up all the way, posting the DERM-O-DYNE sign at the top once the database of songs is loaded.
3. Coin is inserted.
4. A random song is selected.
5. The needle-making-contact .wav file starts. At the same time, the turntable appears.
6. There's some stuttering of the turntable animation when the little .wav completes and the song itself really begins.
7. There's some more stuttering, but eventually the animation looks *almost* acceptable.
8. I press 'skip song' on my keypad. The user-specified image shows up, replacing the spinning turntable.
9. The next needle-making-contact .wav/song starts...so the turntable reappears.
The turntable only is on the screen when a song is playing. Otherwise, the user specified image is on the screen.
I need to clean up the skin's .ini file to remove all the junk I tried out over the past few days to get this to work. Once that is done, I would be happy to email this to anyone that wants to try it on their system.
I also would be happy to accept any 8 images of a spinning turntable playing a record that are more awesome than my own Pioneer. My Flip Camcorder didn't do the best job, but at least I made it myself and would feel good distributing it.
