Hi guys. Looking for some completely translucent (no chrome) colored LED pushbuttons for my machine. Paradise Arcade has them for a great price and there was a very informative video on YouTube comparing their buttons to a competitors. They look like a decent button, but I haven't really seen any feedback from ppl who have used them. Ultimarc's UltraLux buttons are quite a bit more $$, but I've seen some good reviews about them. Just wondering if anyone has used both and could give a comparison? Would like to see information about quality of the button itself, how well it illuminates (is light evenly dispersed on top of button?), and any other feedback that might be helpful in deciding which button to go with. I've spent quite a bit already on the machine I'm building. So would be nice to save some $$ on the pushbuttons. But if it means that I might not be happy with the product, then I would rather spend a little more. Also, if there's an even better option than the Ultimarc or Paradise pushbuttons, please don't hesitate to mention that here. Thanks!

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

I have the paradise arcade buttons, but I have the chrome bezels.  The buttons work great, I have them paired with the 20 microgram microswitches, I am pretty happy with them.  They light up great, no hot spots.  I haven't tried the Ultralux buttons, the Paradise aracade ones work well enough to where I didn't try anything else.

Buttons are cheap.  Just buy a couple of each and decide for yourself

I appreciate the info. I need 28 buttons for my machine which will quite a diff in cost between Paradise and Ultimarc. And I would love to have a sample of each to test, but shipping is a killer for just a couple of items. That's why I was hoping to get some feedback from actual users. ;-)

Yeah, I hear you on that.  But shipping from both places is pretty reasonable and super fast.  You ordered a couple today and you will get them by mid week.  Shipping from Paradise is like 6 bucks, and from Ultimarc its like 15 or something.  A little pricey, but you figure you would be out maybe 20 bucks in total to get the buttons you really want, to me, its worth it.

Why do you need so many buttons?  4 player cab?

Yep. 4 player cab w/ 6 buttons each and then player 1 - 4.

You don't need 6 buttons for 3 and four since there aren't any popular 6 button 4 player games.  You can probably get by with 4 buttons each for p3 and p4

I'm also trying to decide on which LED buttons to use and was wondering if there is a site with a tutorial on connecting up the LEDs to a power supply directly?

isnt much you need to know. They have terminals on then, ones for ground one is for 12v or 5v depending on the button. Just wire direct.

As much as I love ultrimarc's products, the ultralux buttons just aren't for me they are flat top and i prefer concave, so when i get around to doing this I'm going to go with a Pac64 and use GGG's novagem buttons, so I can get the best of both worlds. But for ease of installation i think that ultrimarcs stuff is far superior to the competition, the RGB lights paired with a pac64 is plug&play

Have you checked out the translucent IL buttons? Both Lizard Lick and Paradise sell them. Although neither supplier sells them premade with an LED, Paradise offers IL-lumition RGB or single color LEDs on their site (not as "plug and play" as the Novagems, but easy enough to wire up). Very happy with mine!

yea i've looked at them, Paradise are flat tops, and i've not heard much information about Lizard Lick in terms of customer service or order turn around time.  I just can't stand flat top buttons I have a SSF4:TE stick the really expensive one and I hate it because of the flat top buttons.  This bias has nothing to do with quality or anything just personal preference. And as for my mixing ultrimarc and GGG it strictly brand loyalty to Andy, his products are top notch and he backs them up with excellent customer service, If his ultralux buttons were concave I'd buy strictly from him.  Not that I have any complaints with anything I've ordered from GGG I ordered a few standard buttons from them and their LED marquee light, I'm very satisfied with both of them.

The translucent ILs aren't flat top, they're concave.

What I think you are referring to as "flat top" are convex or competition buttons. Concave, dishes in, like the Novagems...
