Killer Instinct 2 monitor help
« on: May 25, 2011, 01:29:05 am »
Just got a KI2 machine and the monitor doesnt display blue. I plugged another game into it and it doesnt display blue either. I can turn the blue bias on the neck board up and the screen turns blue so I figure the problem is either the blue wire in the jamma harness or something is wrong with the chassis. There is some white stuff at the base of all the caps on the chassis and I dont know what it is. Could it be something leaking? would a cap kit fix this?

Cabs: Tron, MKII, MK4, KI2, Blitz99, TMNT, Pac-Mania, Defender, Mame Box.
PCBs: MK1, UMK3, Killer Instinct, Area51, Sunset Riders, Pit Fighter, Wargods.
Pins: Bride of PinBot, Attack from Mars, The Shadow

mmm not sure what to tell you then, if it was the cap's leaking it would be solid, but abit powdery you could easily scrape it away, but if it's SOLID I've no idea, no harm in a cap kit though, if it's not displaying blue then as the old saying go's you can't brake what's broke.

if thats like the stuff on my monitor its just to hold the cap in place. I'd check the blue from the jamma wire to the input on the chassis. The plug should be ont he right hand side of the chassis if youre facing the back, and its a dedicated KI2

The blue wire looks good. no cuts or anything, I messed around with it and still no blue. I was recently told that it could be the trasnsistor on the neck board. He said those machines run them really hot and the break often. Any truth to this?

your best bet is to post this in the monitor section, much smarter people then me there.

The transistors do get hot and tend to fail, but if that were the case you shouldn't be able to get a blue raster out of it by turning up the drive/bias.

But yes, this needs to be moved to the Monitor forum.

Probably should post more pics of the thing also. Is that a K7000?

This needs to go to the monitor section (You can also post over @ KLOV's Monitor Section, as they have some real dedicated monitor guys.)

The white stuff is silicone, it's there to stop vibration noise, as some parts switch at audible frequencies, and it's annoying.

If you can turn the screen blue with the bias pot, then you need to follow your JAMMA harness back and check for a break in the blue line. If nothing is wrong there, then you're going to be looking at a chassis problem. Need more pics to be able to tell what sort of monitor you've got there.

Swap the red and blue video wires from your game board (either at the JAMMA connector or where they plug in to the monitor).  If you now have blue but no red, then you've got a game board or wiring issue.  If the problem remains a lack of blue, then the problem is with the monitor.

And yes, this needs to be moved to the monitor section. Inform a mod.

Thanks for all the help guys.  Its the original monitor for the cabinet. Im not sure the model but I know its the same as my MK4 cab. So I took the neck board off MK4 and put it in KI2 and I have all colors!! So the problem is definately on the neck board. Im gonna take it to the local repair shop to get it fixed. Thanks for everyone's help!
