Connecting Dreamcast to Arcade Control Panel
« on: May 19, 2011, 03:29:25 pm »
OK, so this might be a pretty straight forward question, but I am not entirely sure.

Currently I have an 1xxx-in-1 jamma board connected to a VGA monitor. To be honest, the quality of the visuals hooked up to the monitor are not great (trust me it is not the monitors fault). Obviously the refresh rate and resolution are much different than a normal arcade monitor.

I have like 5 dreamcasts, so I thought it might be a cool project to gut two controllers (would get these: http://www.amazon.com/Mad-Catz-Dream-Pad-Sega-Dreamcast/dp/B000023MCN/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1305833230&sr=8-1 because the L+R buttons aren't triggers) and connect the wires from the DC controller cables to the arcade sticks and buttons I already have hooked up.

Would be great to actually be able to play MvC2 and other Sega Dreamcast arcade games on there.

Here is a pic of what I am working with, just a generic cab:

What do you think?

Go for it.  Many people have done it.  I have hacked many dreamcast controllers for people doing the same thing.

Get a DC VGA cable, and you're good to go.

I would hit the search button and look around first, as this type of topic is discussed regularly.

I would gut a pad and hook it up to some kind of switchbox, and have the DC in the coin door.

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

I just haven't seen any guides or help on how to do it. I am guessing I can not solder to the controller board. One youtube video looked like someone used hot glue.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

You can solder it. The hot glue is just for wire control.

solder, then hot glue to reinforce the solder points.
