Probably a stupid question but.....
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:47:35 am »
Is there any way to add an xbox 360 to my not yet finished mame cab? I think this is a stupid question, but is there any way to wire my controls with an adaptor to plug into the xbox? I know you can wire a hacked controller easily to a CP, but obvisouly I can't re wire my CP every time I want to go from MK9 to MAME. I also assume straight USB into a 360 doesn't work.

Any ideas?

How far along are you in terms of cab building? Do you have your cp wired?

You need a KVM with USB and sound. 2 mad catz sf 4 pads, an xbox 360 VGA cable, a female to female VGA adapter, a female to female 2.5mm I believe, sound adapter and a RCA to 2.5mm adapter.

Buy 2 mad catz sf4 pads and solder them. Ditch your iPac or key wiz or whatever, the 360 pads are recognized as joys in windows with drivers you can get from MS.  You CAN wire up an iPac and the joysticks together, that is what I am doing, but this just adds complexity.

Connect pads to controls, plug controls into kvm. Plug KVM into computer and connect the xb 360 to the KVM with above mentioned adapters. You are good to go

You can wait for the Akishop PS/360, or you can go for www.etokki.com for a PS/360 controller, however, remember each controller does one set of joysticks and buttons...

The akishop pcbs are good because there is no soldering, but I think the main selling point is that they can hook up to a PC, 360 and a PS3.

If you have at least mediocre soldering skills, get these

http://www.vpgames.com/p-3724-mad-catz-xbox-360-street-fighter-iv-controller-sf-4-turbo-fightpad-assorted.aspx

they are 23 bucks a piece, common ground. All the inputs are digital so no fooling around with getting the shoulder buttons to work, and on top of that, there is a switch that lets you set the dpad to be the dpad, the left joystick, or the right joystick.  Mind you, if you set it to the left joystick, it will still be digital and not analog, but its a nice option if you ever want to play something like Limbo in your cab, where the movement is set for the left stick, and you can't switch it to the dpad.

You could buy these and solder them yourself.  If you do, and you need help, PM me, and I can send you a nice diagram of the solder points.

That's the way I went...

Thanks I actually bought one of these from you all, http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/147-arcade-controller-to-usb.html so I am going to be using it for P3 and 4.

I think its awesome to be able to go PS3 or 360 with them. I'm gonna go with this for 2 reasons, 1. no solder skills at all. 2. having the PS3 functionality is awesome.

that's cool. Man! I would have soldered them up for you for a small fee, or haruman can do it, if you change your mind.

You still need a kvm so that its easy to switch controls, video and sound.  if you search for my thread you can see the one I used, and how I hacked the switch so that I could wire up an arcade button to switch between the PC and xbox 360.

There are a WHOLE lot of other things to consider too.  Like where are you going to mount the 360.  I took the dvd drive off of mine to improve airflow and to be able to switch games without people seeing the 360 box... lots of neat stuff to do if you want to get crazy.  PM me if you need help

Well I still might, it all depends on whether I can use the PS3's d pad to control some games instead of the sticks. Having God of War in my cab is just something I cant pass up.  :lol Don't know if I can use the d pad for that though. I'll just have to look into it more before I decide.

Slikstik had the solution. But they don't exist anymore.

There is Etokki too for ps3/360 controllers but I've never dealt with them.

Akishop PS/360's are out of stock, they had to rework them because of problems with version 1... I've heard a lot of great buzz about version 2.

Probably a stupid question but...

Why do you want a PS3 and a 360?  Most games are cross platform, and most console exclusive games you would probably want to play with a d-pad.

Anyhow if you want to do it do this:
http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_wiring.html

look at the bottom of the page.  Basically you solder, say the up contact on the XB 360 to the up contact on the ps3 and then you connect the PS3 to your controls.

Haha no it's not a stupid question. Basically it comes down to the fact that everyone I know has a ps3 only. Getting the games for it is much easier for me.

Ok I'm confused. Isn't the bottom of that page for a ps1 controller to a 360 controller? I'm going to be new at soldering, does anyone have a more detailed diagram of that process?

yeah, it is, but it would be the same basic concept.  I am sure if you search the shoryuken forums you will find more detail.

So why not ditch the 360 and just use a hacked PS3 controller hooked up to a KVM?

I could just ditch the 360.

I know they make drivers for windows that allow full functionality of the PS3 controllers. I'm confused as far as the use of the KVM

Any particular brand of PS3 controller that would be easier to hack?

I can walk you through the KVM thing.  Are you using a monitor with a vga input?
You need a ps3 to vga adapter and a female to female vga adapter, a rca to 3.5 mm adapter, a female to female 3.5 mm adapter and i would suggest the belkin kvm I am using.

I am sure there are ps3 hacks on the hsoryuken site.
