Ok Baby candy cab CPS2 question (about stereo sound)

ok, i have a OK Baby cab, i have chucked a CPS2 A&B SSF2X in there but only one speaker is working...

i then (while talking to a mate with an OK Baby) found there was a Stereo Amp inside with rcas, so i bust out my cable hooked it up, changed the Menu Option to 'stereo' but no change, and if you remove the lead the sound just carrys on as if nothing happened, from one speaker. I led the lead to a stereo i had lying around, to check if the CPS2 board was outputting sound, which it was, with both speakers. so i then chucked the quick discon from the working speaker to the not working speaker to test it and it was fine.

so 2 questions, any idea why my cab won't output both speakers (i'm about 80% sure it was using both speakers when i had the 60 in 1 in there, i sold that on though so i can't test it)

and any idea how to set the cab to recognise the stereo amp (which is factory) to get sound out of the CPS2 board??

any ideas are appreciated, i'm considering just daisy chaining the working speaker with non working one for just under powered mono, but kind of seems a bit of a waste.. thoughts?

You're not using the JAMMA connector for sound, right? But an RCA connector to the stereo output on the CPS2 motherboard then into your stereo amplifier like in the picture here (ignore the text):



I'm not familiar with the innards of an OK Baby, but in my EGRET II cabinets (well most 15kHz cabinets) there's no built in amplifier, just a mono/stereo switch to choose the input (JAMMA = mono).

hmm.not sure i follow, i am using the jamma connector now, but its only running on one speaker, i'd rather be running stereo from the A board, but when i plug it in nothing changes...

the non working speaker isn't broken, its just not receiving any signal, also the cps2 board is outputting stereo, i checked on my stereo.

so are you saying what i have it plugged into is not an amp then? (The cps2 audio output via rca cables)

so i have to find a switch to change it from mono to stereo? hmm.. my friend was saying some ok baby have a switch next to the volume control for that, in mine its just a covered hole.

I wouldn't give up yet.  There's a lot of ways to get this working as long as you have two speakers in the cab.  All else fails you can just go CPS2->Seperate amplifier->Speakers without any JAMMA stuff involved.  You'll have to revert that when you want to change games though.  

Where do the wires from the non-working speaker run to?

I'll think you'll find page 23 interesting. My picture is showing a CPS2 board with the stereo output hooked up (red/white cable to the right). The JAMMA connector is mono.

To get stereo from your CPS2 board, you have to:
1. Set it to output sound in stereo (not JAMMA sound) in the TEST menu
2. Put an RCA cable in the stereo output on the front of the game's motherboard (to the right from the JAMMA edge connector)
3. Follow the pinout in the manual and fit the other end of the RCA cable to the L, R and corresponding grounds on the cabinet's amplifier

If stuff is missing from your cabinet and you know you're only going to play stereo games (CPS2), just put a small 2.1 system inside the cabinet. I've done this with both of my EGRET II's.

How are you hooking the A board into your stereo? Jamma is mono. if you use the RCA outs from the A board, you feed them into an amplifier and then use that to power the speakers.

If possible, take a picture of your amplifier and it will be easier to help you.

What you need:

1. RCA CABLE (like this one: http://www.electronicsnmore.com/images/RCA2.gif ) or even better, find such connectors so you can use a thicker wire
2. Some quick disconnects that you can crimp to one end of this cable once you've cut the connectors off
3. Some way of attaching the audio wires ground to the amplifier's ground pins (where the mono wires are attached now) without breaking the mono setup

First, make sure that the quick disconnects will fit on those pins on the amplifier so you can just "slide" them on.

If this is all to complicated, you could always just get a small 2.1 system and put in your cabinet instead.
