Quality Check of CPO Request
« on: May 09, 2011, 11:48:48 am »
Just wanted to 'crowd source' a quick QA/QC of my CPO art before getting it printed.  I've been looking at and tweaking so much, I'm liable to miss something that's blatantly wrong.  Need some fresh eyes on it... Appreciate anything you might catch.

Small circles are 'pilots' for where to put bolts, holes, and buttons.  The misc label will most likely be changed...not sure to what yet.

TIA

Your render has no bolt holes or text...

Your bottom angled direction arrows are spaced differently then the top ones. The location of the lower arrows may get covered up by the dustwasher if you go with a dustwasher on top.

Your player 1, player 2 buttons appear to be offcenter. They player 1 button looks to be on the left side of the player 2 button.

My last comment is just an opinion: you need to spice up this CP. It's very flat.

Dammit...attached the wrong file.  Fixed.

Also, the design is intentional.  The three CP's are going on an OmegaRace cab I'm MAME'ing and I want it to keep the theme uniform across the cab.

Oh, its 3 control panels? haha, I though it was one massive frankenpanel... :dizzy: I like it, though!

Great Job! I love that look.  :applaud:

One comment, the word THRUST on the second CP and the SMARTBOMB on the bottom one, don't look right to me.

I can see you centered them in their respective areas, but in this case, it might look better to center them in the available whitespace.

That's my only thought, and it's pretty minor.

I like 'em. They tie into the Omega Race theme very nicely. Great classic look.

Thanks guys...makes it easier to finally drop the cash and order them.  Let me tell you - finding out I needed to order all three at once was actually a downer.  I wanted to just get the fighter panel done and in and get the cab working...but since I'm doing polycarb...the price just dictated all 3 at once.

And the dashed lines - in case you didn't realize - are 'cut' lines.  Sorry, should have said that.  There's one vertically you can't see in the resized image in the first post as well - cuts off the 'extra crap'.  I'll be using the remainder of the CPO for...something.  Can't remember what use I thought of last night as I was falling asleep.

DrVenture: The problem is, when the buttons are in there non-centered versions look downright oddball - visually it's more unappealing than the closeness to the other lines.  I actually designed the CP's with 'button' artwork first.  Made it so I could see what it might be like for that very reason.  I'd definitely prefer to make things a bit 'bigger' but, unfortunately, I only have so many inches to work with depth wise.  (Don't we all?  ;D)

I'm going to have the tron stick bolted onto the left side of the cab and a star wars yoke on the right.  I figure, sure, you won't be able to reach or use them to play but...half the CPO designs I see require Dhalsim arms to play anyway. ;)

Fixed a few minor things and color tweaks...and ordered.

Now...to order the hole saws and other related tools to cut the metal.

Wheres the other 3 panels? I thought the minimum was 6?

seriously though,

what goes in the rotate? an 8way?

As for the naming convention, why not think of more clever titles?
Fighters =Omega Fighting
Misc= OmegaMisc or OmegaOther
classic =OmegaWilliams

The only thing Im not too sure of is the position of the start buttons on the OmegaFighting panel (see wut I did thar?)

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Well...I MAY do a driving panel someday if I ever get a Star Wars Yoke. (So...basically...never gonna happen.) :)

Also, the rotate's are each spinners - one is for a Tempest (Oscar) spinner and one is for an Arkanoid spinner (from an actual Arkanoid CP).  I've used both and they are so not interchangeable in feel, I decided I wanted both.  The spin thing is for a trackball.

And nothing's named anymore.  Decided to strip that text off - didn't like it.

The start button position on the OmegaFIGHT!1! panel is, unfortunately, semi-set due to space constraints.  It either goes there, or they nearly touch the other buttons (there smaller cone style buttons, but still are bigger than that yellow line, diameter wise).

I thought the text was really well done.

Yeah I can see you're point about the buttons and centering the text though.

It could work either way. Really a minor nit more than anything.

Thanks DrV.  When finalizing it, I went back and forth a few times and I really REALLY disliked the 'misc' and there simply wasn't enough space for anything else.  So...I said f-it and just removed them.  :)
