Hinges and Latches

Is there any type of hinge I can install in a CP that will allow it to open while attached to the cabinet, without having a space behind it for the CP lid to move into? Also how do i keep it closed, a latch of some sort? Oh and how do you use the latches for securing a CP? I see them for sale at various suppliers but not sure how to install the or where.

No real need to use a latch to secure the CP to the cabinet unless you are taking your cabinet apart often and need a quick disconnect.  I have a few brackets securing my CP to cabinet.  I then put a piano hinge on the front of my CP to get to the controls, but the CP box is still secured to the cabinet with the brackets.

And I've had no problem keeping my CP closed.  However, I thought I would and bought a couple roller latches like below:

A lot of people use velcro. Stuff is strong and holds well. Also, you'll see a lot of piano hinges to hinge your CP to the cabinet. There's the occasional latch for holding it down, similar to what you'd see on the extra leaf to a dining room table.

Well if it opens forwards then it would be very akward to work on and that would defeat the purpose. 

My solution was to not bolt the cp box down (not the top, the box).  It has pieces of wood screwed to the bottom to keep it from shifting and it weighs enough to where it never lifts up on it's own.  When I do need into my cp, I simply lift the box straight up out of it's groove and slide it forward an inch or so, which gives me enough room to open the cp freely.

If you want to have the hinges invisible, try the kitchen hinges for microwave doors.

Having it open forward doesn't make it akward to work on at all, and having it open forward is easier then having it rear hinged and having the sticks bang into the monitor glass.

Your solution works too.  More than one way to do it.

They worked great!   They are on the front of the box.  I agree it does not make it awkward to work on this way.   Having the hinges on the back would bump my joysticks into the screen.   

And I didn't really do anything to get the box to stay shut.   The general weight of the control panel keeps it there, and the hinges hold it in place.
