Nah, it's not that hard
Of course, that's on an original machine. Unfortunately, I died not long after the score rolled over 1 million.

I can clear most all the stages fairly well on even the higher levels.. but that darn LightCycle stage always seems to crush me in the end.
I believe there are patterns you can learn to destroy them... I just never got round to learning them.
