How to include images in the middle of a post?
« on: April 30, 2011, 11:59:53 pm »
Okay... I know how to attach pics at the bottom of a post.  But how do you get them to appear in the middle of a post?

Thanks!

Host them somewhere like photobucket, then paste in the image code.

Here is a way to upload an image and then use it in the middle of the same post...

Additional Options> Choose File>Save Post

Then after it is published click on your thumb and then right click on the large image and "copy image url".
Note: Some browsers are different, like in IE it's >right click image>properties>highlight and copy url

Next, 'modify' your post. Then paste your image url into post and highlight it:

click the image button:

it adds these tags: then save

Essentially you can right click for any image url on the internet, paste url in your post, highlight url, click image icon in tool bar. Just make sure it is SFW, or you could run into some problems...

Donkey_Kong's method is what most of us should be using. While it's cool and probably easier to link to an outside service like photobucket, that really sucks ass in the long run. If you delete the images, if the service dies, or you just move on, those photos disappear and six months, twelve months, even three years later someone is going to do a search, find your post, and go, "What the ---fudgesicle---? Stupid ---uvula--- linked to pictures that don't even exist! What good is this thread?"

I can't tell you how often I was trying to find information on something and there's a cross link or image leading to a dead site that relates to some crucial understanding within that thread. It's like seeing a damn teaser to the movie of the millennium, but every single copy of the movie was destroyed in some apocalyptic event just before wide release.

I'm not sure if Saint put it so succinctly, but I believe he cares less about bandwidth than he does about preservation of the information here.

This is good to hear. I remember bandwidth being a big issue early on, and I guess I never really looked back into it. I will add the images to the site in the future. I may also try to edit to add them in. I have images saved on photobucket in awkward places just to keep from breaking links. Thanks for the info!

By the way, there is a thread in the Project Announcements forum whose sole purpose is to let you upload images into it, then reference them elsewhere on the forum ala DK's tutorial.
