Electric Ice-t RGB trackball + spinner Q & A
« on: April 26, 2011, 02:20:16 am »
This is basically a few questions for RandyT as my pm's haven't been working so I'm just posting it here.
I'm going to order one of the v2.5 trackball's very soon but on the website where it says 'USB device number', Does it mean that if you choose 1 for example then it has to plug into slot 1 on the opti-pac? Also I'm looking at getting a TT high-low spinner but I'd like to see or know how the translucent white base which says can be used for illumination works.
Now I'm assuming I'd order it as 'Slave' as I already have an Opti-Pac. Is that what that means?
Finally, with the steering wheel attachments, does your control panel layout need to have the spinner located near the edge in order for this to work well? Perhaps there are some photos I could see of one attached to a panel?
Sorry for so many questions.
Hopefully you can clear this up for me so I can make the order!

Nope, it means that you don't need one.  The EI trackballs come with their own interface, and unless you plan on putting more than one on your panel, you can leave the Device Number at it's default of "1".

Essentially, when you mount it, there will be space around the body and below the plate, where you can rig up some LEDs.  If you put a few RGB's below the panel, pointing up toward the mounting plate, the plate will illuminate and take on the color of the LEDs, to a degree.  If you control them with a LED-Wiz, you can get all kinds of flashing and color changing effects as well.

You can if you want, but again, the easiest solution is to get the "Master" version, which comes with it's own interface and is plug and play with the Up and Down switches connected to the mouse right and left buttons.  The Slave version is intended to be a slave on the Master's control board, so you would need to do a little re-wiring for use with another interface.

As long as the spinner is not closer to another control, or your front window, by the radius of the wheel size you want, leaving an extra comfortable space for you to hang onto it, then you can put it anywhere on your panel you like.

Not a problem :)
