Mouting Glass
« on: April 25, 2011, 11:15:03 pm »
I have to front mount my glass due to not being able to put the monitor in from the back due to the Vesa mount and the way i built the cabinet ( not thinking ahead i guess (oh well next time).

looking for some opionions on the best way to mount the glass in place.
I was thinking of gluing some strips of wood on the inside the glass to rest against.. and then routing a small gap out of the back of the top and bottom pieces of wood with a small L clip attached so the wood could sit in that channel.

But would  i have to hold the sides in at that point or should i pick up some black molding or something to cover the edges since there will be a small gap since i had to go under by 1/8" since the glass place said +/- 1/8 on thier prescion

Are you using the glass as a bezel as well? Depending on the type of bezel you decide to use, or if you care about this being seen, you can make a kind of frame inside of the cab around the edges of the screen area, so the glass can rest against that (I assume it’s going to be at some kind of angle..), then, in front of the glass you can put some small strips of wood screwed into the sides/top (probably only need to get two corners, top right, bottom left, something like that. And they should hold it down. You can paint them black, and they should hardly be noticeable.

Scof thats kinda what i was thinking. Everything is stained wood grain on the cabinet. The bezel is covered with a Bezel artwork from Scott at Gamesongraphix.

That’s perfect then, you can even make an entire wooden frame outside of the glass and it would fit with the motif.
