Google hijacking my clicks on this site
« on: April 24, 2011, 10:04:17 am »
I'm starting to become really annoyed now. Once in a while (yet every time I visit BYAC) when hovering the mouse pointer on a forum thread here, or a specific page, the status bar doesn't say that by clicking I will go to the page I expect to, but rather to googleads... something. If this is some way of helping this site to survive, I'd like to know (and it's all good), because as it is now feels really low and "scam-like" to me. When I click I always seem to end up @ Ultimarc and have to go back.

Just for reference, I have not experienced anything similar.

Me neither. I see the google/Ultimarc (and others) ad at the bottom, but I've never had it hijack any clicks.

No idea and nothing we've done. We do have Google Ads, but they're clearly boxed in at the very top and very bottom, and not embedded in the threads.

I'm starting to become really annoyed now. Thanks for clearing that up fellas. For the record, I'm running Opera and have no issues whatsoever on any other site. I'll just have to power through it. :afro:

I run Opera as well, and have had no issues.

It is most likely some form of malware on your computer.

It is most likely some form of malware on your computer.

It ONLY happens here though. And I frequent A LOT of forums.

Edit: Just had it happen again. See attached image (the bottom bar shows the destination for the link that I was going to click).

I wonder if my surfing technique is to blame. I use Page Down and Page Up a lot to browse each page, and the Google ad at the top of the page might "tag along for the ride" as I hit Page Down?

Have you tried another browser to see if it has the same issue?  Also, in your screenshot, I noticed you were using the default theme for the website.  Have you tried changing themes?  I doubt that would do it but it's just a thought.   :dunno

Well, it seems this only happens to me, so no worries. I only made the thread to see if it was something fishy going on here. I will try not to browse with Page down from now on and see if the phenomenon disappears.

I bet that's exactly what's happening. I think when you page down, the focus changes and the mouse-position doesn't re-grab focus unless you move it? Don't know. Odd.

Check your browser plugins. Do you have any kind of google software installed? Even separately? (chrome, google toolbar, google earth) You might want to start by taking stuff like that out.
